Mission Circle to Meet This Evening: Circle number four of the Wo man's Missionary Society of the Methodist church will meet this eve ning (Thursday) at 7:45 at the home of Mrs. Alden Hunt on Vine Street. All members are requested to attend. Seniors Honored by Grade Mothers and Class Advisor Mesdames J. P. Hendren and C. N. Myers, grade mothers, and Miss Alice Dixon, class advisor, honored the members of the senior class with a "kid party" Friday evening at the home of Mrs. Hendren on West Main Street. The party was held on the lawn, which was lighted with gaily colored lights. During the evening games and contests were enjoyed and suckers, animal crackers, ice cream cones and lemonade were served. Mrs. R. L. Poihdexter, class presi dent. was in charge of the business meeting at which time routine busi ness was dispatched. A social hour was enjoyed at the close of the meeting. Mr. and Mrs. Gwyn Entertain Fort nightly Bridge Club Thursday • Evening Mr. and Mrs. Paul Qwyn were hosts to the members of the Fort nightly Bridge Club at the regular meeting .Thursday evening at their home on Gwyn Avenue. The guests were invited for dinner and later three tables were made up for bridge. The club award went to Mrs. J. R. Poindexter at the close of a series of interesting progressions. Dick Chatham was a special guest. Mrs. Gwyn is Hostess to Bridge Club Friday Morning: Mrs. Paul Gwyn delightfully en tertained the members of the Friday Morning Bridge club at her home on Gwyn Avenue Friday morning. Bridge was played at two tables. The club award for high score went to Mrs. C. G. Ashby at the conclusion of the play. When the cards were removed a tempting luncheon was served the eight guests present. Mrs. Walter DeVault of Knoxville, Tenn., a guest of Mrs. Ruohs Pyron, was a special visitor. Mrs. Wade Is Hostess to Book Club Thursday Evening Mrs. L. I. Wade entertained the members of her book club and suf ficient guests to complete three ta bles at an enjoyable meeting at her home on West Main Street Thurs day evening. Cards were enjoyed with the high score award going to Mrs. H. F. Laffoon and the consola tion prize to Mrs. H. B. Holcomb at the conclusion of the play. Special guests were Mesdames R. M. Hudgins, Harold Lewis and U. Coke Marion. The hostess served a beautifully appointed refreshment course when the cards were removed. Seniors Honored By Classmates At Party Monday Evening Honoring their classmates. Misses Dorothy Colhard and Prances Hen dren and John Poster entertained the members of the senior class of Elkin high school at an enjoyable party at the home of Miss Colhard on Church street Moriday evening. The guests were invited for supper, which was served on the lawn. Pol lowing the 1 supper a series of games were engaged in. During the evening about twenty five additional guests came in for dancing, which was enjoyed until 11 o'clock. Punch and cookies were served during, intermission. Mrs. Weaver Entertains Senior Class Mrs. H. J. Weaver of Brooks Cross Roads entertained the Senior class of West Yadkin high school Friday night. Contests were enjoyed and several games were played. Delicious ice cream and cake were served to the following members wf the senior class: Couch Wagoner, Pauline Boles, J. D. Garner, Ola Pinnix, Lee West, Nannie Salmons, George Long, Ruby Hudspeth, Ruth Sale, Lester Bell, Clifton Long, by Miss Melton and Miss Shermer.- Mr. and Mrs. Ireland and Miss E3- va Shermer were special guests. Pearl Johnson Circle of Baptist W. M. U. Meets Tuesday Evening The Pearl Johnson circle of the Woman's Missionary Society of the First Baptist church met at the home of Mrs. Sheffy Graham on Gwyn Ayenue Tuesday evening with ten members present. Mrs. Hoyt Ham bright, circle chairman, presided over the busiiiess session. The program was under the di rection of Miss Mattie Mae Powell, assisted by Mrs. E. C. James, Mrs. George Adams, Mrs. Fred Harris and Miss Effie Crater. During a pleasant social hour the hostess served a tempting refresh ment course. Mrs. McNeer Honors Mrs. Miller at Tea Saturday Afternoon Mrs. E. P. McNeer entertained at an informal tea at her home on Church Street Saturday afternoon to honor her sister, Mrs. B. P. Mill er of Washington, D. C., who was her guest. The lovely home was decorated throughout with mixed garden flow ers artistically arranged In pottery vases. Tempting refreshments were serv ed buffet style. Mrs. R. L. Hubbard presided at the coffee table and Mrs. O. T. Roth served a salad. In drawing for the prize Mrs. R. L. Methodist Circles Meet Monday Af ternoon in Monthly Sessions The circles of the Woman's Mis sionary Society of the Methodist church met Monday afternoon at 3:30 In the following homes: Circle number one met with Mrs. M. A. Biggs on West Main Street with seventeen members present. Mrs. Alex Chatham, circle chairman, presided over the meeting and con ducted the devotionals. The mission study book, "Christian Living For Our Children" which is being studied simultaneously by each circle, was taught by Mrs. H. C. Salmons, 'Mrs. J. F. Hendren and Mrs. Q. T. Roth. Mrs. Mason Lillard gave highlights of the conference of the W. M. U. held at Statesville recently. Circle number two met at the home of Mrs. E. C. Grier on Bridge Street with Mrs. Richafd Chatham associate hostess, with sixteen mem bers present. Mrs. R. c. Harris on West Main Street with eight members present. Mrs. R. B. Harrell, circle chairman, presided over the meeting and con ducted the devotionals. The mission study was taught by Rev. L. B. Aber nethy. During a pleasant social hour each hostess served refreshments. Mrs. George Royall and Miss Powell Entertain Legion Auxiliary Mrs. George Royall and Miss Mat tie Mae* Powell entertained the Aux iliary of the George Gray Post of the American Legion at the home of Mrs. Royall on Church street Mon day evening, with thirteen members present. Mrs. J. A. Carpenter, president of the Auxiliary, presided over the business session at which time plans were made for the annual Poppy Day to be held May 23. The program was also on Poppy Day and was In / charge of Mrs. Royall, assisted by a group of mem- bers who gave .'acts about the origin and observance of Poppy Day. The concluding number was a paper, "Popples Must Carry On," by Miss Mattie Mae, Powell. Miss Peggy Royall, young daqgh ter of the hostess, delighted the guests with a piano solo, "Minuet in G" by Beethoven. Tempting refreshments were served during a pleasant social hour. Mrs. Eph Whisenhunt directed the mission study lesson. The Naomi Shell circle met with Mrs. W. L. Bostic with Mrs. Hlnson associate hostess with fourteen members and two visitors present.
