These defects, such as diseased tonsils, defective teeth, defective vision, etc., should not be neglect ed. It is highly important that the child should enter school phy sically fit, as his progress in school may be seriously handi capped because of these defects. The school health examination is by no means a substitute for medical supervision by the fami ly physician who sees your child in health and sickness and can therefore Judge the child's indivi dual needs and potentialities. All that the school physician can b& expected to do in the few minutes at his command is to pick out from a large number of children those who are most likely to be in need of further medical care. * Give your child a fair chance in life. One specific duty of the parent is to get his child ready to enter school for the first time, ■ - \ - .. m ■-- • THE ELKIN TRIBUNE, ELKIN, NORTH CAROLINA — • free of all defects and physical handicaps. A physical defect puts a child at a disadvantage with its schoolmates. Poor sight or hear ing may cause him to seem dull in school and cause him to be come discouraged and disinter* ested. The first step in getting ready to take his place well equip ped with other children is a thor ough physical examination by a physician and dentist. Delay is costly not only from a material standpoint but physically as well. COOL SPRINGS The homecoming held from" this church yesterday was well at tended, every church save one be ing represented in the program of the afternoon. Rev. Avery Church gave an interesting ad dress. This was followed by a few remarks by the pastor, two songs by the Cool Springs choir. Miss Vermeil Money of Pleasant Hill gave the greetings from their church, followed by an accurate record of the organization and progress of their church from its beginning to the present time. Marten Luffman represented from Little Elkin, but asked Joe Vanhoy to give the church his tory as being the oldest member of that church present. Johnny Darnell represented Shoaly Branch in a short talk. Macedonia was represented by Ernest Edwards and George Key, Mr. Key giving a good talk. Benham, our youngest church, was represented by Eli Smith, Luke Masten represented from El kin, a two minute talk by him was much enjoyed, also we were fortunate In having with us for the first time Rev. Eph Whisen hunt, also of the Elkin Baptist church. Rev. Whisenhunt gave an interesting talk. We appreciate the good will and the hearty cooperation we had from all in making this Homecoming an enjoyable occa sion. Sixty-three of our Sunday school members were absent yes terday, was one of those absent YOU? Mr. and Mrs. C. H.
