Sunday School Class Enjoys Pic nic to Klondike Lake The Happy Workers Sunday school class of the First Baptist church, accompanied by the class „ teacher, Mrs. Beatrice Myers Phil lips, and their mothers enjoyed a picnic at the home of Mrs. D. H. Morrison at Klondike Farm Thursday evening. From tables erected on the picnic grounds of Mrs. Morrison, on the shores of Klondike lake, a tempting sup per was served. Ashby entertain ed the members of the Friday Morning Bridge Club at a de lightful meeting at her home on Bridge Street Friday. The guests were invited for ten o'clock and bridge was played at two tables until one o'clock, when a tempt ing luncheon was served. The club award for high score went to Mrs. Paul Gwyn at the con clusion of the play. Special guests were Mrs. Carl Poindexter and Miss Maude Greenwood. Miss Salmons Honored at Party by Misses Neaves and Sale Honoring Miss Carolyn Salmons of Winston-Salem, who was the guest last week of her grandmoth er, Mrs. Fannie Salmons, Misses Rosamond Neaves and Mary Sale entertained at a lovely party Thursday evening at the home of Mrs. Salmons on Gwyn Avenue. The guest list included twenty boys and girls of the high school set. Games and contests were en joyed during the evening. An ice course, with salted nuts and ginger ale, was served buffet style at the conclusion of the games. Mrs. Harris is Hostess to Bridge Club Tuesday Evening Mrs. Edwin Harris entertained the members of the Eight of Clubs at an enjoyable meeting at her home on Bridge Street Tuesday evening. Bridge was played at two tables, with the club award for high score going to' Mrs. Clyde Eller at the conclusion of the play. Those making up the tables were: Mesdames Hugh Parks, Thomas Roth, Clyde Eller, W. B. Lankford, and Mrs. Anna Harris Shugart and Misses Edith Neaves, Mary Virginia Barker and Jose phine Paul. Immigration is Theme of Study for Club Meeting Wednesday Meeting at the home of Mrs. Hugh Royall on West Main Street Wednesday afternoon in the regular monthly meeting, members of the Wednesday Study Club enjoyed an excellent pro gram on "Immigration" under the direction of Mrs. A. L. Griffith. Current events of interest were given by Mrs. Royall. At the conclusion of the pro gram a tempting collation in two courses was served the following members: Mesdames J. H. Bee son, C. Approximate ly 250 friends of the honoree en joyed the event. Dinner was serv ed picnic style from a long table erected on the lawn. Mrs. T. L. Dezern of Boonville, twin sister of Mrs. Sneed, shared honors with her. Among those from a distance attending were: Mr. and Mrs. Lu ther Hurt and Mr. and Mrs. John W. Hurt of Ronda; Miss Verona Norman of Reidsville; Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Brown and Mr. and Mrs. Thurmond Nance of Shady Grove; Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Sneed and Misses Leona and Eva Sneed, Robert, John E., and J. M. Sneed, Jr., and Miss Nellie Weatherman of Winston-Salem. The honorees were the reci pients of many lovely gifts. Mrs. Clay Church is Honored at Formal Tea Wednesday Afternoon One of the most elaborate so cial events of the summer was the formal tea given by Mrs. Paul Price and Miss Virginia Price at their home on Gwyn Avenue Wednesday afternoon from 4 un til 6 o'clock, to honor Mrs. Clay Church, who prior to her mar riage last month was Miss Louise Phillips. The guests were greeted at the front entrance by Miss Virginia Price and presented to the receiving line in which stood Mrs. Paul Price, Mrs. Clay Church, honoree, Mrs. Beatrice Myers Phillips, mother of the bride, and Mrs, Robert L. Church. Miss Pauline Church of Roar ing River, directed the guests in to the dining room where Misses Amy Catherine Myers and Doro- thy Colhard served moulded ices, individual decorated cakes and salted nuts. Mrs. Max Boyles di rected the way to the den where Mrs. Paul Owyn served punch. Miss Carolyn Lillard presided over the guest register and good byes were said to Mrs. J. L. Lil lard. Eighty guests called during the receiving hours. The home was elaborately dec orated with Madonna lilies, lark spur and water lilies, the latter being used to adorn the table from which punch was served. Elkin Midgets Win Over Jonesville The Elkin Midgets walloped the State Road Midgets Friday by the score of 18-5. Shumate, with a triple and a double out of two times at bat, and Burch with a homer, a double and a single, led the hitting for the local team. Harris, who relieved Sparks, was outstanding, striking out eight men in three innings. Monday morning the local team defeated the Jonesville team 10-8. Harris was outstanding for Elkin, getting two doubles, and a triple and striking out 11 men. Swaim, with a home run, led the hitting for the opponents.
