Hold last rites for Dr. L. M. Allen. Ordinance passed here barring coal truckers hauling from mines. Roosevelt to make address at Charlotte today. SEPTEMBER 17 ISSUE Committee approves Main street lot as site for postoffice building. Accident results in death of W. S. Holleman, Yadkin county man. Republicans name Surry can didates in convention at Dobson. SEPTEMBER 24 ISSUE Elkin-Ronda road first of kind to be constructed in state; use cotton fabric. Funeral is held for Ralph Ar nold, fatally injured in fall from motorcycle. Lenoir corporation to operate furniture plant here. OCTOBER 1 ISSUE Rain and collapse of tents re sults in postponement of Elkin Pair for year. To sell assets of defunct Elkin National Bank. j Roosevelt scores communism ftS, he starts campaign. Hege, held in Jail on bomb mur der charge, committs suicide in cell. Glenn Swaim, Yadkin man, is killed, and Guy Myers, also of Yadkin, badly hurt in auto acci dent. Elks down North Wilkesboro gridders 26 to 0. OCTOBER 22 ISSUE Elkin sadden by passing of B. C. "Dick" Grier, respected citizen and pioneer grocer. Remaining assets of Elkin Na tional Bank sold for $22,500. Drunken drivers become epi demic locally. OCTOBER 29 ISSUE Third of cost of postoffice here to go to workers. Elkin and Jonesville pastors are returned. Interest in politics high here as election nears. NOVEMBER 5 ISSUE Roosevelt winner in 46 states in national election. Wilkes Democrats break into Republican stronghold. Democrats carry Elkin township by handsome majority. NOVEMBER 12 ISSUE Local firemen not to answer calls outside of town limits of El kin and Jonesville. W. J. Snow is appointed as sistant tax collector to B. P. Fol ger. Boy Scout court of honor is formed here. NOVEMBER 19 ISSUE Wilkes election case is unset tled with Republicans challeng ing Democratic winners. Local bank declares dividend of eight per cent. * DECEMBER 3 ISSUE Judson Ashby, publisher of Mount Airy Times, found dead in his office. Christmas seal sale to start. Caleb Wagoner, Surry outlaw, is captured without shot being fired. DECEMBER 10 ISSUE Commissioners here pass laws to remedy parking and traffic situation. DECEMBER 24 ISSUE Chatham employees are paid special bonus for Christmas. Kiwanis auction brings over $l6O for benefit of Christmas fund for needy. Mrs. Ida Billings, Wilkes wo man, ends own life by hanging. DECEMBER 31 ISSUE Addition to local hospital as sured provided Elkin can raise $3,000 by January IS. M., were installed at a meeting of the council last week. S. E. Newman was installed as councilor by J. C. Martin, state deputy councilor, as were other officers.
