Mrs. Quincy Johnson, who sub mitted to an appendicitis opera tion at Hugh Chatham Hospital last Saturday, is getting along just fine. The many friends of Mr. J. M. Holcomb, who wa hit by a car driven by J. B. Mathis as he was crossing the street to front of his home on Saturday night about 7 o'clock, will be glad to learn that he is improving at Hugh Chat ham Hospital. Mrs. T. L. Lineberry, of Boon ville, spent the week-end with her son. P. A. Lineberry and family. The Parent-Teacher's associa tion will meet on Thursday night, January 14, at the local school auditorium at 7:30. Mrs. Eph Whisenhunt will be the guest speaker and also a special musical program will be rendered. The public is cordially invited. Dett Martin Honored With Birthday Party Mrs. Arthur Martin honored her son, Dett, "with a party at her home on Saturday afternoon from one to four o'clock, January 9, on his twelfth anniversary. MASTEN PASSES FRIDAY Former Elk in Man Dies at Wins ton-Salem Home Following 10- Day Illness; Buried Sunday Worth W. Masten, 63, a native of Elkin and son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William J. Masten, died at his home in Winston-Salem early Friday morning, following an illness of ten days. His condi tion had been critical for a week before his passing.
