Yadkin Session Ends After
Busy Week; Judge Alley
On Bench
SHERIFF IS COMMENDED
Yadkin county criminal court
adjourned Friday morning after
a busy week. «Judge Felix A. Al
ley presided over the term and
the docket was prosecuted by So
licitor John R. Jones.
Judge Alley is an able jurist
and has been frequently men
tioned as an appointee for the
supreme court bench as one of
the judges to be appointed soon.
At the end of court each attorney
present thanked him for his gen
erous and amiable attitude dur
ing the week.
Judge Alley, before adjourning
court, took occasion to speak very
highly of Yadkin's Sheriff, A. L.
Inscore, and said he was one of
the best sheriffs in North Caro
lina and this fact was shown by
his works. He also said he had
tried more drunken drivers in the

Murder Indictment
The grand jury returned a true
bill of murder in the first degree
in the case of Clyde Sheek, for
killing Will Holleman, which oc
curred several weeks ago near
Jonesville. Holleman was killed
when his car, driven 'by Sheek, j
left the highway arid struck aj
tree. Sheek was sent up for 12
months for driving drank and
carrying a pistol, which was
found on him after the accident.
One of the cases tried during
the week which occasioned much
comment was that of Miles W.
Swaim, aged 62, of Knobs town
'ship, who was charged with bas
tardy in two cases, each prose
cuting witness being girls of 17
and 18 years of age. The Jury re
turned a verdict of £Uilty in both
cases. The final result of the
two cases was an order by Judge
Alley that the old-man pay to the
clerk of the court $7.50 each
month for the support of the
child of Carry E. Vestal and $7.50
each month for the support of the
child of Eva St. John, these be
in* the young girls who said
Swaim was the father of their
children.
John Parker, Yadkinville negro,
who has served numerous prison
sentences in the past, got the
longest sentence of any prisoner
during the present term. He was
charged in two cases with steal
ing an automobile belonging to
Jess Mackie. He was given not
less than four nor more than six
years in State prison. Parker
is known locally as a bad actor.
Only two automobiles have ever
been stolen in Yadkinville and
Parker stole both of them, one in
1925 and one in 1936.
Foy McHome and Hubert Cray
ton, young white men, were found

guilty of robbing the Yadkin Gro
cery company in January. They
were each sentenced to twelve
months in state prison. Each dc |
fendant was also given a term of
three years in state prison, this to
be suspended on condition of good
behavior for five years.
Melton (Bull) Gatton, charged
with forgery, was given four
months on the county roads and
a suspended sentence of twelve
months on good behavior for five j
years. Mack Hemric, charged i
with Gatton, also got the same
sentence. Gatton has been in jail
for nearly twelve months await
ing trial.
Cal Hutchens, Yadkinville white
man, public drunkenness in two
cases, resisting an officer and
aiding prisoners to escape, pleads
guilty in all except aiding prison
ers. Seven months on the county
roads.
Joe Russel, Yadkinville negro
boy, was sentenced to the roads
for eighteen months for assault
with a deadly weapon on his
brother, Fred Russel, In which
Fred lost an eye when he was
struck by a flat iron.
Rufus Lynch, another Yadkin
ville negro boy, charged with lar
ceny, plead guilty and was or
dered to pay the costs or serve 12
months on the county roads.
Reuben Brown, pleads guilty of
simple assault, fined $50.00 and
the costs and driving license re
voked.
John Scales, Walter Hege, and
Harvey Hege, larceny, found guil
ty. Harvey Hege was given
twelve months on the roads, Wal
ter Hege and Scales six months
each.
Ralph Carter, possession of
whiskey, pleads guilty, twelve
months on roads, suspended for
five years on good behavior.
Wallie Richardson and Seaboy
Love, transporting, nol pros as to
Love. Richardson twelve months
on roads, suspended for five years
on good behavior and to pay the
cost.
Ottis Bowman, possession of
whiskey, pleads guilty, twelve
months on roads, suspended for
five years on good behavior.
Roy Cook, Bud Carroll and Earl
Setzer, transporting, Plead guilty.
Fined $50.00 and cost.
Alex Blevins, possession of li
quor, pleads guilty. Twelve
months on roads, suspended five
years on good behavior, and to
pay the court cost.
Dewey Pinnix, larceny, pleads
guilty, twelve months on roads,
suspended five years. ,
Gene Pardue, possession of li
quor, pleads guilty, to pay the
cost and sentenced for twelve
months on roads, suspended five
years.
Carl Lee, transporting, pleads
guilty, fined $25.00 and cost and
given suspended sentence of 12
months for five years .
Tom Nicks, resisting officers,
pleads guilty, judgment suspended
until next term of court and to
pay cost.

pros.
Carlie Cornet, operating car
drunk, pleads guilty, fined SIOO
and cost .and given suspended
sentence of six montlis for five
years. Driving license revoked.
Levi Beshears, operating car
drunk, pleads guilty, fined SIOO
and cost and given six months on
roads, suspended five years, driv
ing license revoked.
James Lambeth, assault, found
guilty, to'pay the cost.
Troy Cockerham, bastardy, nol
pros with leave.
Arthur Pardue, possession of
liquor, pleads guilty, to pay the
cost and twelve months on roads,
suspended for five years.
Howell Reavis, possession, twelve
months on road, suspended five
years and to pay cost.
Paul Hennings, disturbing pub
lic worship, pleads guilty, three
months on roads.
Raymond Holcomb, possession
of whiskey, nol pros.
Fred Sheek, driving intoxicat
ed, $50.00 and the cost, six months
suspended for five years, driving
license revoked.
Buck Cantor, larceny, nol pros.
