Haynes an nounce the birth of a daughter, Pern Marie, March 23, 1937. Mr. and Mrs. J. Paul Gilliam and son, Sammy, of Statesville, were the Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Roy West. * Mrs. J. P. Ipock and ohildren, John and Anne, spent Sunday in Lexington, the guests of her brother, W. W. Woodruff. Mr. and Mrs. C. A. McNeill and family spent Sunday at Purlear, the guests of Mrs. McNeill's mother, Mrs. J. F. : Hayes. Mrs. Fred Colhard and son, Charles Marshall, have returned from a visit to her parents at Thaxton, Virginia. Moir Hall, a student at David son College, has been elected president of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity at the collegge. Miss Margaret Farrow of New berry, S. C., will be the week-end guest of Mrs H. T. Hambright at her home on Qwyn Avenue. Jonny Davis spent the week end in Yadkinville, the guest of his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. M. R. Davis. Mr. and Mrs. C. N. Gillette of Charlotte were the guest Sunday of Dr. and Mrs. Wm. R. Wellborn, on Bridge Street. Mrs. E. C. Kirkman spent the week-end in Jamestown, the guest of her daughter, Mrs. L. L. Hendrix. Mrs. E. G. Click has returned from Reidsville where she visited Mr. and Mrs. Alan Gwyn, the former her brother. Mr. and Mrs. D. F. Gough spent the week-end in Charlotte, the guests of Mrs. Gough's sister, Mrs. L. D. Greene. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Gwyn spent the week-end in Seaboard, having been called there on account of the illness and death of Mrs. Gwyn's grandmother, Mrs. M. D. L. Harris. Mr. and Mrs. C. O. Hadley and children. Ruth and Charles, of Statesville, spent Sunday here with Mrs. Hadley's parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Snow, on Gwyn Avenue. Delbert Boyles of Pilot Mountain, spent the week end here, the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Max Boyles, at their home on Gwyn Avenue. Miss Elizabeth Shores, a stu dent at ..Greensboro College, will arrive today to spend the holi days with her mother, Mrs. W. A. Shores, on Bridge Street. Mrs. Roy Smith and Miss Bessie Dean of Benson will assive Friday to spend the holidays with Dr. and Mrs. M. R. Wellborn, on Church Street, Mr. and Mrs. H. T. State College, Raleigh, re turned to school Monday after spending the spring holidays here with his grandparents, Dr. and Mrs. M. A. Royall. Rich Chatham, Jr., a student at N .C. State College, Raleigh, together with a party of friends, spent the week-end here with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. M. Chatham. Mrs. C. H. Whitener of the George Gray Post of the American Legion, attended the annual post officers conference of the North Carolina Department of the American Legion at Salis bury the first of the week. Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Neaves had as their guests Saturday at their home on Bridge street, their daughter. Miss Emmaline Neaves, a student at N. C. C. W., Greens boro, and Misses Sallie Burdge and Loretta Sheean, also students at N. C. C. W., and Mrs. Sheean, Mrs. Burdge and Earl Sheean, all of New York. Mrs. J. Mark McAdams is still in Greensboro with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Z. V. Strader, who are ill. Mrs. Strader, who was in jured in a fall sometime ago is improving. Mr. Strader, who be came seriously 111 the latter part of the week, is in a critical con dition in a Greensboro hospital. Mr. McAdams was in Greensboro for the week-end. NORMAN > ' Funeral services were held I Thursday morning at Shoaly \ Branch Baptist church for w. M. Norman, 60, of State Road, who passed away at his home, follow ing a paralytic stroke. He was twice married, first to Miss Alice Carter and after her death to Miss Sallie Tucker, who survives. • One daughter of the second mar lf riage, two adopted daughters, and r one brother, John Henry Norman, P also survive.
