Mrs. Claude Farrell and Miss Janie Hall spent the week-end in Marion, the guests of Miss Ruth Atkinson. Miss Vivian Ellis of Clayton is spending sometime here the guest of Mrs. Earl Ellis, at her home on Elk Spur street. Mrs. T. W. Church spent the early part of the week in Win ston-Salem, the guest of Mrs. Le- Roy Salmons. Mr. and Mrs. E. S. Spainhour are moving this week from Hotel Elkin to the Paul Reich home on West Main street. Mrs. M. S. Hunt, of North Wil kesboro, is visiting her daughter, Mrs. R. L. Mrs. Bob Ogburn of Winston- Salem was the week-end guest of Mr. and Mrs. Hardin Graham at their home on Terrace Avenue. Miss Margaret Cragan had as her week-end guests, her sister in-law, Mrs. Paul Cragan, and children, Ann and June, of Ruf fin. Mrs. Charles Poplin left the latter part of the week for an ex tended visit to friends and rela tives in the eastern part of the state. Miss Bettie Allen spent the week-end in Durham, attending the state teachers meeting. She was a delegate from the local school. Mr. and Mrs. H. O. Cockerham spent last week in Martinsville, Va., and Winston-Salem, visiting friends and attending to business matters. Mr. and Mrs. E. C. James spent the early part of the week in Shelby, visiting Mr. and Mrs. Wade Hatcher and Mrs. E. F. Adair. Mr. and Mrs. Errol Hayes re turned Saturday from Rocky Mount, where Mr. Hayes spent several days attending to busi ness matters. Janice Gray, small daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Buford Hurd, has been quite ill for a few days, but is much improved, their friends will be glad to know. Mr. E. L. Persons of Durham is expected to arrive Saturday to spend a week the guest of Mrs. C. L. Haywood, Jr., at her home on Hospital Road. Mrs. C. A. McNeill left Tuesday for Greensboro, where she will spend several days with Judge and Mrs. Johnson J Hayes, the former her brother. Smith, Jr., of Dunn, and R. S. Kelley and son and daughter Bob and Janet, of Er win, were the week-end guests of Mr. and Mrs. Mason Lillard, at their home on Gwyn avenue. Mrs. C. L. Davis returned Mon day from Greensboro where she was a patient at Wesley Long Hospital for several days. Her many friends will be glad to know that her condition is much im proved. Mrs. C. C. Pulp returned Sun day from Raleigh, where she spent several days with her daughter, Miss Jeanette Pulp, a student nurse there, who recently underwent an operation for ap pendicitis. Charles Dunnegan of this city, junior at N. C. State College, Raleigh, was elected president of the North Carolina Collegiate Press Association at a three day session which ended at High Point Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Parks Crater of Washington, D. C., spent the week-end with Mr. Crater's, Mrs. J. M. Crater, at Cycle. They were accompanied by Hal Dobbins, who has been in school in Washing ton. He will spend sometime at his home before returning to school. Mrs. F. M. Norman and little daughter, Glenda, will leave Fri day for Raleigh, to attend the May Day Fete at Meredith Col lege. Mrs. Norman's daughter, Miss Una Norman, a student at Meredith, will be a member of the May Queen's court. PLEASANT HILL Mr. Fred Walbert, Mr. Claire and Bob Robbins, of Elkin were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Day, Sunday. They also visited Mr. and Mrs. David Day. Mr. and Mrs. Mackle Royal of Mt. Park, spent last Wednesday and Thursday with Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Darnell of this com munity. Mr. Rastus Darnell and Mr. James Transou of this commun ity are spending a week in St. Louis with friends and relatives. We were glad to have Mrs. Con rad Holcomb and) daughter, of Mooresville, with us in Sunday school Sunday. Mr. D. E. Broome left this community Saturday, for his home at Monroe, N. C. Miss Gertha Collins of this community was the week-end guest of her sister, Mrs. Otis Couch of Elkin. The "Happy Day" quartet sang at Mitchell's Chappel Sunday night. Mrs. E. S. Couch and Miss Lucy Couch of this community spent last week in Greensboro with Mr. and Mrs. Scott Neese. | THURMOND The many friends of James Thompson will be glad to know that he is lots better and going about his work again. Everyone is urged to attend Sunday school next Sunday, which will be our first Sunday and it will be held each Sunday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the Masonic hall building at Thur mond and there will also be preaching at the usual hour and the usual time. Parents please come and bring your children, and if you cant come, send the child ren each Sunday. Let's make our community a better one thru our Sunday school. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Norman have returned home from a visit to the latter's parents, near State Road; Rev. Baldwin, who conducted the revival at Elkin last week, visited here Sunday and deliver ed a wonderful message. The community greatly misses Mr. and Mrs. Tyre Atkins, since their removal to Elkin. Miss Cecil Richardson is now better and able to be back at school, we are glad to note. The farmers are busy planting ' their crops and getting read? for the summer's work outdoors. The Mine Ridge school closed last Friday for the summer vaca tion. The recent showers are very much appreciated by the farmers in this section. All members are invited to attend. rHOLD PRE-NATAL CLINIC AT HOSPITAL The Elkln Woman's Club Invites all indigent patients to attend a pre-natal clinic held the first Tuesday In each month from 2-4 in the afternoon at Hugh Chat ham Hospital. The clinic is in charge of the county nurse, as sisted by local doctors and mem bers of the hospital staff.
