Hutchens, a native of Yadkin county, pastor of the Centenary Methodist church of Concord, will deliver the bacca laureate sermon for the high school graduates Sunday after noon, May 9, at 2:30 o'clock. Monday will be a day of sports and stage activity, with a baseball game between Harmony and West Yadkin slated for the after noon at 3 o'clock and the senior class day exercises "The Open THE ELKIN TWBDNE. ELKO), NORTH CAROLINA Road" at 8 o'clock in the evening. The commencement address will be delivered by Judge Johnson J. Hayes of Greensboro, at 11 o'clock Tuesday morning. This will be followed by the presentation of diplomas to the graduates. Tuesday afternoon a baseball game is scheduled for three o'clock between Yadkinville and West Yadkin. The final exercise will be the senior class play "Hobgoblin House" to be presented Tuesday evening at 8 o'clock in the school auditorium. BETHEL Ronda, Route 2, May 3.—The quartet singing held here at Beth el church last Sunday afternoon proved to be one of the best and most enjoyable yet held. The ef ficient chairman, Mr. David Day asked Mr. L. M. Hinshaw to take charge of the meeting since he was numbered among the singers. The quartets furnishing music were: Bethel; "Happy Day" from Pleasant Hill: Furniture from El kin; Wilkesboro, Jones family and a band of singers with Mr.! Reece Mastin, also Mr. W. T. My ers of Elkin came in time to as sist in a quartet. We were glad and happy to have all the many visitors with us. The tax listers, Miss Nanye Martin and Messrs. J. G. Adams, G. C. Green and James Pardue are at this place today (Monday). Deputy Sheriff Worth Sale was a business visitor in this com munity Monday. Messrs. B. R. and Millard Pardue accompanied their sister, Mrs. A. P. Woodruff to Davis Hospital in Statesville last Sun day. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Finney and little son Tommy, of Elkin, visit ed Mrs. Finney's parents here last Sunday afternoon, Mr. and Mrs. T. N. Green. Mrs. C. W. Gilliam, Sr., spent a few days last week at Jonesvllle with her son and family, C. W. Gilliam, Jr. Mr. and Mrs. Gilliam and little son, Charlie, accompan ied her home Saturday evening and visited the former's sister and family, Mrs. W. H. Jones. Rev. Mr. Gilley and family have had as their guest the past week end his brother. Mrs. Elza St. John was able to return to her home here last Sat urday from the Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, her friends will be glad to learn. Mrs. G. F. Pardue and children are spending a few days visiting her mother, Mrs. Hart Eller, near West Jefferson. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Green of Winston-Salem, were the week end guests of the formers moth er and family here, Mrs. J. B. Green. Mr. Joshua Melton from near Mt. Park, visited his brother and family here last Saturday and Sunday. | MOUNTAIN PARK We are sorry to note that little Elisha Craig is very ill in the Hugh Chatham Memorial Hos pital. we hope for him a speedy recovery. The annual home coming at Mountain Park Baptist Church will be held next Sunday. There will be a number of speakers and choirs from other churches. Ev erybody Is urged to attend and bring a well-filled basket. Mr. and Mrs. M. K. Landrieth and son, Mock, spent the week end in Sparta visiting relatives. Miss Margaret Laniar of Mere dith College spent the week-end with her sister, Miss Laniar, who is a member of Mountain Park faculty. Those from here attending the singing conventioa at North El kin Sunday were: Mr. and Mrs. Claud Harris and family, Mr. and Mrs. Wqodrow Gentry, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Calloway and family, Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Swift and family, Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Walt ers, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Harris and family, Mr. and Mrs. Free Callo way, Miss Stacey Swift, Mr. and Mrs. Abe Mays and Mr. and Mrs. Cockerham. An operetta was given last Sat urday night by the grammar grades of Mountain Park school entitled "Cinderella." A large crowd attended, which was en- Joyed by all. Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Walters had as their Sunday guests, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Marlon of Mt. Airy. The Mountain Park high school won three gold medals at the county track meet last Wednes day which was held at Mt. Airy. The stone age man wasn't civ ilized, so he didn't display his disapproval of something by hiss ing and howling. One out of every thirty persons is left-handed. 11 J. M. C. | WSM ARTISTS TO APPEAR LOCALLY The Lakeland Sisters to Ap pear on Stage at Elk The atre Next Tuesday ARE SINGING COWGIRLS The Lakeland Sisters, Mary and Ann, whose home is In Ewen, Michigan, began their radio ca reer at WJMS, Ironwood, Michi gan. Prom there they went to Minneapolis, and from there to Detroit, in 1935. Nor are they lacking in stage experience, hav ing played with a big vaudeville show as a feature act all over the country. Mary and Ann went to WSM around the Ist of the year, 1937. After a successful audition, they became full fledged members of the Orand Ole Opry cast, and made their first appearance on January 9th. Almost immediate ly requests for personal appear ances were received by the WSM Artists Service, and so the "Sing ing Cowgirls" were obliged to take to the road again. They make a very pleasing appearance on the stage in their vivid cowgirl accou trements, with their Hawaiian and Spanish guitars, and their clog and buck dances. The Lakeland Sisters will ap pear in person at the New Elk Theatre here, Tuesday, May 11, matinee, night and midnight. Mrs. Hazel Anthony of Bugga boo, spent Sunday with her moth er, Mrs. J. Z. Adams. Autie Key spent Sunday with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Millard Key, of Hamptonville. Mr. and Mrs. L. M. Hawkins are spending a week with their daughter, Mrs. Steve Swaim, of Statesville. Misses Esta and Lovie Jolly of Benham, spent Sunday afternoon with Misses Faye and Mamie McCann. Miss Blanche Cox spent Sunday with Miss Rosalee Lyon.
