Thursday. June 10. »M 7 L. M. Stewart left Tuesday for Ashjeville for a week's vacation trip. Mr. and Mrs. P. M. Greene spent the week-end in Ivy, Vir ginia, the guests of relatives. Miss ,Myra Sale left Tuesday for Wake Forest college, Wake Forest, to attend summer school. Miss Maxine Aldridge is spend ing this week in Guilford College, the guest of Mrs. R. C. Smith. Mrs. Leßoy Campbell attended the Salem College Alumnae lunch eon at Winston-Salem Saturday. Miss Nell Morrison of States ville was the week-end guest of Mrs. O. P. Wall, at her home west of Elkin. J. D. Bowman of Morganton, was a week-end guest in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Chappell on Bridge street. J. H. Smith of Goldsboro was the guest Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Markham at their home on Church street. Lon Dillon has returned from Lenoir, where he has been spend ing the past five weeks attend ing to business matters. Miss Myra Sale had as her guest last week at her home west of Elkin, Miss Dale Gulledge of Monroe, Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Reed of Elkin announce the birth of a son at Hugh Chatham hospital June 7, 1937. Miss Sarah Kelley Lillard has returned from Blacksburg, Va. where she attended the com mencement dances at V. P. I. Miss Freddie Matthews of Con way, S. C., is spending a week in East Bend and Elkin, the guest of friends and relatives. Miss Margaret Jane Cheek of Sparta, was the week-end guest of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Barker, at their home on West Main street. Jack Carter of Eustis, Florida, was the guest the latter part of the week of his brothers, Wilbur and Roger Carter, at Hotel Elkin. Miss Anne Maguire returned the latter part of the week from Kernesville, where she spent last week with her sister, Miss Mar tha Maguire. Mrs. C. M. Walls of Princeton, West Virginia, arrived Wednes day for a visit of ten days to Mrs. L. M. Stewart at her home on West Main street. Irwin Wade, a student at Duke University, Durham, has return ed to Durham to attend summer school, following a visit of a week to Mrs. Wade here. Mrs. S. K. Harkrader and Miss Helen Harkrader of Dobson are the guests this week of Mr. and Mrs. Fletcher Harris, at their home on West Main street. Mrs. F. G. Shinn of Bronx ville, N. Y., will arrive Tuesday of next week for a visit of two weeks to Mrs. Raymond Chatham, at her home on East Main street. Miss Claudia Austin of Elkin and Winston-Salem, left Satur day for a week's vacation trip to Lexington and Berea, Kentucky. During her stay she will attend the finals at Berea College. Denzil Cockerham, a student at Richmond Medical College, Richmond, Virginia, has returned to his home at State Road, to spend the summer with his par ents. Ralph Reece and little son, Charles, will leave the Idtter part of the week for Columbus, Georgia, following a visit to her parents, Dr. and Mrs. Wm. R. Wellborn, at their home on Bridge street. Mrs. Eph Whisenhunt, Miss Edwina Lawrence and Miss Anne Ipock were among those from the First Baptist church in this city attending the Baptist Conclave at Meredith College, Raleigh, this week. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Rumbouid and Mrs. Rumbouid's parents, MT. and Mrs. Skinner, of Santa Ana, California, and Mr. and Mrs. Loyd Skinner of Lake Arthur, La., were the guests last week of Mr. and Mrs. John Gilliam. Mrs. Mozelle Norman Gentry and little daughter, Nina, of Powell, Wyoming, who are visit ing relatives and friends in North Carolina, spent several days the past week with Mr. and Mrs. I. A. Eldridge and family at State Road. Mrs. W. A. Willis, of Mead ville, Pa., has arrived here to take up her duties as dietitian at Hugh Chatham Hospital. Miss Elizabeth Alexander, who has served in this capacity for sever al months, will leave today for Minneapolis to make her home.
