First, )there's the request from one reader who suggests that we W make mention of the fact that parents who have children with whooping cough should be considerate enough of other children to leave their children at home during the course of the ailment. There's enough cases' of whooping cough spread around now, she said. Charlie Wolfe turns up to turn in the report that Will Holcomb is planning to endow the medi cine show over across the river provided it will make Elkin a permanent stand, and that he al ready has his pantry and all available closet space filled with bottles of medicine guaranteed to Hot Weather is Here— t Beware of Biliousness! From the boys at Abernethy's 1 we get it that since Jack Smoot has become the proud father of a fine eight-pound daughter, he has been practicing for future duty by carrying Lon Dillion back and forth across the floor the while he croons simple little songs de signed to ease the pains of colic. These are some of the more common symptoms or warnings of biliousness or so-called "torpid liver," so prevalent in hot climates. Dont neglect them. (Adv.) » THE ELKIN TRIBUNE, ELKIN, NORTH CAROLINA From the depths of our exper ience we could tell him that a bottle containing a little warm soda water is pretty good at times. As a charter member we hereby extend to Jack the warm hand of fellowship In the ancient and honorable order of the Golden Diaper. His badge of membership, ja large brass safety pin, will be mailed. Gleaned from someone who should know comes the tale that H. P.' Laffoon, oftimes referred to in this column as "the boss," warmly grasped and shook the hand of Dr. Seth Beale upon his return to Elkin to practice med icine, making the following state ment at the time: "I was mighty sorry to see you leave and I'm mighty sorry to see you back!" Of course he meant he was mighty GLAD that Dr. Beale has again returned to Elkin, but his tongue got sort of tangled up, which is a way newspapermen have, seems like. In case you didn't know, Jack Benny's last program in the cur rent series will go out over the air next Sunday evening. He will be succeeded by Captain Henry's Show Boat until his return next fall. And while we still feel full of information, we'll say for the ben efit of those who don't know that the reason the driverless car was halted last Saturday before com pleting the parade was because the storage battery which oper ated the steering wheel, went dead. Once the new postoffice is com pleted and construction is ex pected to be under way before September takes its place in the halls of history—Elkin's business section on the south side of Main street will present an unbroken front from P. A. Brendle & Son to the E. Sc A. Railroad. When you stop to think about it, few traveling men, who drive hundreds of miles weekly, have automobile wrecks. It's usually the man who works all week and then gets out in his car over the week-end who adds lots of figures to the highway accident toll. It's been mentioned here before but we'll mention it again that of the five men on the Elkin board of commissioners, three have the [same initials—C. C. Which led someone to remark that there's certainly no reason for this par ticular board to fail in getting quick action on any matter. The Girl Scouts rigged up an attractive float for last Saturday's safety parade. Now if they had just employed a swarm of large mosquitoes to hover overhead the picture would have been complete. We used to go camping as a Boy Scout in the days of our youth, and each time, no matter where wo went, a large black snake would always turn up and insist on sleeping with us. We didn't mind the snake's company so much, but when it snuggled against us under our blanket, its body was so cold that it gave us the shivers. Finally, after several camping trips we took the snake aside and told it frankly that we couldn't allow it to sleep with us any more. We'll never forget the hurt look which came into its eyes. Then it brightened and wiggled away in to the grass. Next time we went camping we figured we wouldn't be bothered, but just as we were tucking ourself into the blanket, what should come sliding up but the snake, wearing a long black stocking. No, we haven't been drinking anything. Have you? Little Mountain Mr. and Mrs. Rufus Reynolds and family of Cool Springs, visit ed relatives in this community Sunday.
