Laffoon will regret to know that she sus tained a broken arm in a fall in the backyard at her home on Church street Saturday afternoon. Mrs. Laffoon slipped on a wet board following a rain. Mrs. Greene will remain in New England for the summer. Rev. and Mrs. Eph Whisenhunt attended the funeral of Dr. E. M. Poteat at the First Baptist church In Greenville, S. C., Monday. Dr. Poteat, a former president of Furman University, died at Duke Hospital, Durham, Friday. They were accompanied home by Mrs. Whisenhunt's sister, Miss Sadie Miller Lawton, who is a medical student at the University of Tex as, Dallas, Texas, who will be their guest for several days. CHATHAM PLANT IS DAMAGED BY STORM The "old mill," scouring plant of the Chatham Manufacturing Co., here was extensively damag ed last Friday night during a heavy rain, wind and electrical storm, when lightning struck the roof of the building. Other dam age was caused by wind and rain. In addition to the damage to the building, further damage oc curred when a large amount of wool stored in the building was soaked by the downpour.
