Mrs. Parks Hampton of this
city will undergo a goitre opera
tion this morning in a Statesville
hospital. Mrs. Hampton has been
a patient in the hospital for sev
eral days, taking treatment pre
paratory to the operation.

Monday of the death of his bro
ther, Vance Russell, 75, at his
home at LaPayette Springs, Miss
issippi. Mr. Russell, who was a
successful farmer, was a son of
the late Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Rus
sell of Alexander county. He mi
grated to Mississippi when he was
15 years old and had resided there
since that time.
