Legion Auxiliary Wins Award and Honorable Mention at State Convention The Woman's Auxiliary of the George Gray Post of the Ameri can Legion of this city won a Na val placque for the best member ship attendance throughout the year of any auxiliary in the state at the annual state convention in Durham last week. Friday Evehin* Book Club Meets With Mrs. Harris Limiting her guests to members of the Friday Evening Book Club, Mrs. Edworth Harris was hostess at a delightful party at her home on West Main street Friday even ing. Rummy was played at three tables. In the final count of scores, Mrs. L. I. Wade received the high score trophy and the consolation prize went to Mrs. J. P. Ipock. A delicious refreshment course was served late in the evening. Mrs. Grier is Hostess to Two-Four Bridge Club Mrs. E. C. Mission Circles of Methodist Church Meet Monday The circles of the Woman's Missionary Society of the Meth odist church met Monday after noon at 3:30 in the following homes: Circle number one met with Mrs. Fred Colhard on Church street with nine members pres ent. Mrs. J. F. Hendren conduct ed the devotional period and Mrs. J. S. Atkinson ledjhe Bible study. Circle number two met with Mrs. R. L. Hubbard on Surry Ave nue, with Mrs. W. M. Evans asso ciate hostess, with twelve mem bers present. Mrs. E. F. McNeer conducted the devotionals and the Bible was led by Mrs. R. C. Freeman. Circle number three met with Mrs. J. O. Abernethy on West Main street with eight members present. "The devotlonala were in charge of Mrs. Errol Hayes and Mrs. Mason Llllard conducted the Bible study. A social hour was enjoyed at" the close of the program. Each hostess served a tempting refresh ment course. Baptist Circles In Monthly Meetings The circles of the Woman's Missionary Society of the First Baptist, church met Monday af ternoon at 3:30 in the following homes: The Neal Young circle met with Mrs. C. A. McNeill on Bridge street with nine members present. Mrs. I. C. Yates presided over the meeting and Miss Minnie Ruth McNeill conducted the devotion als. The program on "The In dian" was in charge of Miss Amy Catherine Myers. The Naomi Shell circle met at the home of Mrs. T. O. Harris, on West Main street, with eight members present. The meeting opened with a devotional period, in charge of Mrs. JF. Cooke. Mrs. T. G. Harris directed the pro gram, assisted by Mrs. C. R. West. Mrs. T. O. Harris presided over the business session, in the ab sence of the circle leader, Mrs. J. F. Moseley. The Pearl Johnson circle met Tuesday evening with Mrs. Leslie Reinhardt on Elk Spur street, with ten members and one visitor present. Mrs. Reinhardt, circle leader, presided over the business session. The program and devo tionals were in charge of Miss Mattie Mae Powell. She was as sisted in the program, by Mrs. Reinhardt, Miss Lee Mae Lowery and Miss Effie Crater. At the close of the program a social hour was enjoyed. Each hostess served a refreshment course. Wolfe-Osborne Marriage Is Announced Of widespread interest to friends is the announcement of [the marriage which was made [Tuesday of Miss Opal Margaret I Wolfe to Thomas Osborne, both of Jonesville. The marriage was sol emnized at the Methodist church in Independence, Va., Saturday, July 24, with Rev. L. D. Mayberry, pastor of the Independence Meth odist church officiating, using the ring service of the church. The bride, who is an attractive brunette, was becomingly dressed in a suit of navy blue alpaca, with touches of white at the neck. Her accessories were of navy, and her flowers were a shoulder corsage of bride's roses and lily-of-the valley. Immediately following the cere mony, Mr. and Mrs. Osborne left for a brief wedding trip to places of interest in Western North Car olina. Mrs. Osborne is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hubert K. Wolfe of Jonesville. She received her high er education at Appalachian State Teachers College, Boone, and for the past two years has been employed in the office of Dr. E. O. Click. Mr. Osborne is the son of Mr. and Mrs. R. M. Osborne of Jones ville and is employed at the Dou ble Eagle Service Company. After today Mr. and Mrs. Os borne will be at home at the Chapel apartments on West Main street. Formal announcements of the wedding are being issued. Davis-Latnder A wedding of interest in this state was solemnized Wednesday morning at 9:00 o'clock in Har mony when Miss Elsie Lucille Da vis became the bride of Mr. Ar thur H." Lanier of Denton in a ceremony at the home of the bride. Rev. J. T. Bowman, of Denton, officiated using the ring cere mony. Members of the families and a few intimate friends were the only witnesses. As the guests assembled Miss Sarah Boyd of Henderson, N. C., who presided at the piano played "Indian Love Call" and Miss Laura Joy ner of Hamptonville, N. C., sang i "Ah Sweet Mystery of Life" and "The Sweetest Story Ever Told." The bridal chorus from Lohen grin was used as the processional and Mendelssohn's wedding march as the recessional. The bride was becomingly dress ed in navy blue chiffon with hat and accessories to match'and car ried a lovely bouquet of butterfly roses, sweetpeas and larkspur. Immediately after the ceremony :Mr. and Mrs. Lanier left for a trip through the Shenandoah Val ley to Washington, D. C. They I will make their home in Denton [upon their return.
