Bowers of Mount Airy, spent Monday in Kannapolis, vis iting relatives. Mrs. H. C. Salmons and chil dren, Dorothy Jean and Joe, re turned Sunday from a visit to rel atives at Kernersville. Miss Margaret Hutch Ins and Mrs. E. C. Chappell left Wednes day for Raleigh, where they will attend to business matters. Mrs. R. L. Rowan and Mrs. Gor don J. Ballew of Lenoir, were the guests Thursday of Mrs. Beatrice Myers Phillips at Hotel Elkin. Z. H. Miss Catherine * Linn of Salis bury is spending this week here the guest of Miss Ruth Atkinson at her home on West Main street. Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Andrews of High Point were the week-end guests of Mesdames L. E. Aldridge and Janie Smith at the Home Ho tel. Thomas Phillips left Saturday for Marion, Virginia, where he will spend a week with Mr. and Mrs. Clay Church, the latter his sister. Miss Helen Lewis of Middles vboro, Kentucky, is spending some time here the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Lewis, the former her brother. Mr. and Mrs. David Brendle and family are expected to return tomorrow from a week's vacation trip to White Lake and Myrtle Beach. Mr. and Mrs. J. Walter Darnell and Mr. and Mrs. T. V. Cocker ham spent Sunday at Shatley Springs, the guests of Mrs. L. P. Hicks. Mrs. Conrad Hock and children, Mildred, Constance and Jimmy, returned Sunday from a visit to Mrs. Henry Hock at Roanoke, Virginia. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Rash spent the week-end in Winston-Salem, the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ned Harbin, the former a brother of Mrs. RaSh. Miss Ruth Hadley, of States vllle, is spending this week here the guest of her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Snow, at their home on Gwyn Avenue. Linville Hendren of Enfield and Thomas Hendren of Fort Bragg, arrived Saturday for a visit to their parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Hendren, on West Main street. Mrs. Joyce Myers is critically ill at her home at Cycle, Yadkin county, her many friends will re gret to know. Mrs. Myers is the mother of C. C. Myers of this city. Mrs. R. G. Smith and family of this city, and Mrs. Fred Walker and children of Decatur, Georgia, returned Monday from a vacation trip to Myrtle Beach, South Car olina. Anne and Jane Dixon of Pleas ant Garden are spending some time here the guests of their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Z. H. Dixon, at their home on Gwyn Avenue. Mr. and Mrs. L. P. Walker have as their guests at their home on Church street this week, Mr. Walker's brother, R. C. Walker, and daughter, Jean, of Winston- Salem. Friends of Miss Louise Transou will regret to know that she has not been so well the past several days from an illness that has kept her confined to her room for sometime. Charlie White will leave today for Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, following a visit to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. T. White, at Buck Shoals, Yadkin county, and other relatives here. Dr. and Mrs. Wm. A. Jenkins and son, Bill, of this city, accom panied by Jim Sterchi of Lexing ton, left for a month's tour of points of interest on the Pacific coast. Friends of Mrs. M. C. Misses Etta Greene and Velda Holcomb returned Wednesday night froqj a vacation trip of sev eral days to Columbia, S. C. They were accompanied by a party of friends from Charlotte. Mr. and Mrs. John Reich, of Washington, D. C., who are visit ing Mr. and Mrs. E. F. McNeer, on Church street, joined a party of friends in Greensboro for a week end trip to Myrtle Beach. Mrs. R. D. Boggs and little son, Dicky, of Valdese, spent last week here the guests of her father, W. D. Polin, and Mr. and Mrs. Ros coe Poplin, the former her broth er, on West Main street. Mrs. C. S. Sissell and daughter. Miss Catherine, of Winston-Sa lem were the week-end guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. Walter Darnell and Mr. and Mrs. C. S. Poster, the latter Mrs. Sissell's sister. Dr. Hugh Pajks, who has been taking a six-weeks post graduate course at Harvard Medical school, preparatory to accepting a place on the local hospital staff, return ed to his home here Monday. Mrs. R. B. Fitzgerald and little daughter, Becky, returned Sun day from a visit of several days to friends in Greensboro. Mr. Fitz gerald went down for the week end to accompany them home. Misses Mary Charles and Eliz abeth Alexander of Monroe, who have been visiting their aunt, Mrs. F. M. Norman, on Gwyn Ave nue, left Wednesday morning for Roaring River, where they will visit friends. Mrs. J. I. Cockerham, Miss Opal Ingool, Miss Fannie Nicholson and Mrs. Juanita Cockerham Car ter left Thursday for Marion, where they will remain through August 9, attending the Pente costal Holiness Camp meeting. Mr. and Mrs. John Reich and daughters, Patricia and Joan, will leave the latter part of the week for their home in Washington, D. C., following a visit of two weeks to Mr. and Mrs. E. F. McNeer, at their home on Church street. Mrs. E. C. Kirkman left Satur day for Jamestown, where she will spend several days the guest of her daughter, Mrs. L. L. Hen drix. She was accompanied by Mrs. R. L. Kirkman and son, Robert, who spent the week-end there. v Mrs. George Royall and son, Edwin, and Mrs. H. F. Laffoon spent Tuesday in Winston-Salem. They were accompanied home by Mrs. Royall's brother, Walter Bell, who will spend sometime here recuperating from a recent illness. Dr. Ira S. Gambill is a patient at the local hospital, where he is undergoing treatment for an ill ness that has kept him confined, to his home for sometime. Friends of Dr. Gambill will be glad to know that his condition shows, im provement. Mr. and Mrs. Cleo Aldridge and children of Greensboro, were the week-end guests of Mrs. L. E. Ald ridge at the Home Hotel. Mrs. Aldridge and children remained for a week's visit. Mrs. Aldridge also had as her guest, Mrs. Ethel Bryant of Thomasville. The family of Mrs. Rachel Wolfe gathered in reunion at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ray Epperson, at White Plains, Sun day. Those attending were: Mr. and Mrs. Grady Wolfe and son, and Mr. and Mrs. George Draugh an and family of Mount Airy; Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Norman, Francisco and Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Wolfe, Union Grove, A dinner was served at the noon hour and in the afternoon a watermelon feast Iwas enjoyed. Mrs. crews' mother, Sirs. W. *. Paul. Mrs. Crews will remain for several weeks, while Mr. Crews is on the tobacco market at Lake City, South Carolina. Mrs. Parks Hampton returned Friday to her home here from Lexington where she has been con valescing at the home of her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. P. A. Myers, from a goitre operation which she underwent several weeks ago at a Statesville hospital. Mrs. Hoy Moose and little son, Hoy, Jr., of Mount Pleasant, are spending this week here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Whitaker, at their home on Church street. Mr. Moose accom panied them up Sunday and re turned to Mount Pleasant Mon day. Miss Agnes Gray left Friday for a visit of a week to Mr. and Mrs. Ed Gray, the former her brother, t Salisbury, Maryland. She will be accompanied home by Mr. and Mrs. Gray, who will spend some time here with Mr. Gray's mother, Mrs. Annie Gray, on Franklin street. Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Morgan and children, John Walter and Mary Shores, of Glendale, Cali fornia, will arrive this week for a visit to Mrs. Fred McNeely and Miss Sadie Franklin and other friends and relatives here. Mrs. Morgan was formerly Miss Mollie Robey of this city. Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Markham and daughter, Hilda, left Satur day for a visit of several days to Mrs. Markham's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thad Tombs, at Chase City, Va. They will be accompanied home by their daughter, Neva, who has been spending a month with her grandparents. Jimmy Hambright, young son of Mr. and Mrs. H. T. Hambright, sustained painful burns on his chest and thighs Tuesday when he pulled a bottle! warmer from a table, where the nurse was pre paring his food, and was binned with the hot water. He was treated for the injuries at the lo cal hospital and was dismissed from the institution Wednesday. Mrs. Edwin Duncan of Sparta, who recently underwent a major operation at a Statesville hospital, is spending sometime here in the home of her parents, Dr. and Mrs. Wm. R. Welborn. Dr. and Mrs. Wellborn also have as their guests another daughter, Mrs. J. Ralph Reece of Columbus, Ga., Dr. Well born's sister, Mrs. A. V. Foote, of Chicago, and Miss Dorothy smith of Benson. Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Poindexter were called to Richmond, Vir ginia, the latter part of the week on account of the death of Mrs. Poindexter's sister, Mrs. H. A Kin zer. Mrs. Kinzer had been criti cally ill for several months and Mrs. Poindexter had been with her during the most of the time. Mr. Poindexter returned to unfein early in the week and Mrs. Poin dexter is expected to return this week-end. ■ > - * J ■ ■ the guest of Miss Peggy Royatt at her home on Church street. She was accompanied by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Griffith, who were the guests of friends here Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Clark Myers and sons, of Charleston, West Virginia, were here a short time last week, visiting friends. They also visit ed Mr. Myers' parents in Yadkin county.
