NEWS FROM THE I
IS
Dobson, Aug. 30. A force of
laborers under Foreman T. J. Fol
ger are still very busy making ce
ment sidewalks in our town. Next,
it is hoped somebody will push the
heretofore agitated problem of
building hard-surface roads on,
both Kapp and Elkin streets, both
of which lead to the school build
ing. This would meet a long felt
want and something greatly need
ed. *
A large crowd attended the an
nual sth Sunday community sing
ing held in the Dobson school au
ditorium Sunday. Several choirs
rendered hymns, and it was a
full day of music and song.
A large number of enthusiastic
baseball fans of Dobson regularly
attend the ball games of the Bi-
State league played in Mt. Airy
each week. Mt. Airy won over
Leaksville Saturday evening 11 to
3.
Miss Susan Freeman of New
York is visiting her mother, Mrs.
, Maude Freeman.
Ruth Ashburn of Winston-Sa
lem and Mildred Monday of Mt.
Airy spent Sunday with their
young friends in Dobson.
Misses Julia and Mazie Comer
and Mamie Williams of Raleigh
spent the week-end in Dobson
with home folks and friends.
Dr. and Mrs. Joe Folger have
moved into the home recently oc
cupied by Mr. and Mrs. Wright
on Kapp street.
Mr. and Mrs. John Alfred Hay
nes and Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow
Gentry were in Dobson Saturday
on business.
Hermon Coe, who works in the
bank here is in the Mt. Airy hos
pital and will possibly have an op
eration at a later date.
Mrs. D. D. Riddle and daugh
ter, Susie, of Sanford, are spend
ing sometime with Mrs. Sallie
Folger.
Grandmother Reid is critically
ill at her home here. Mrs. Brooks
is nursing her.
Mrs. Jay Rosendahl is a patient
at the Mt. Airy hospital with ap
pendicitis and complications.
W. L. Reece and Henry Hamp
ton attended the funeral services
of Mrs. Alice Kaop Saturday at
Mt. Park. Mrs. Kapp was the
widow of the late John Kapp of
Kapps Mill and was 72 years old.
Mrs. John W. Crawford, who
has been ill in a Statesville hos
pital, has sufficiently recovered
to return to her home.
Mr. and Mrs. George Potterton,
of Washington, D. C., visited Mrs.
Potterton's uncle, W. L. Reece
and family Thursday and Friday.
Mr. and Mrs. Reece, Mr. and Mrs.
Potterton, Misses Edythe Reece
and Marianne Mock motored to
Roaring Gap Sunday afternoon.
Dr. Charles Willis, of Hunting
ton, W. Va., spent a few days this
past week with his sister, Mrs. R.
A. Freeman, returning to his home
Thursday.
The Woman's Missionary So

At the business period the name
of Mrs. Howard Snow was added
to the roll of members. Mrs. Snow

Sizing: Him Up
Playfoot—Do you know how far
apart your ears are?
Pancake—No, I haven't the
slightest idea. How far would you
say it is?
Playfoot—Well, in your case I'd
say one block.
"HOW CAN YOU DO IT?" has
been asked us frequently by parties
who have viewed the very useful
and beautiful pen and pencil sets
at the THbune office which we
are giving away absolutely free.
The offer expires soon. Better pay
us a visit today.
You miss some enjoyment by
listening to a baseball game over
the radio. You are not close
enough to ride the umpire.
