U. of the First Baptist church will meet with Miss Doro thy Hampton on Elk Spur street Tuesday evening, September 14, at 7:30. All members are invited to attend. Ysung Matrons Class to Meet The Young Matrons Class of the Sunday school of the First Baptist church will meet Tuesday evening, September 14, at 8 o'clock at the home of Mrs. Seaman Dob bins, on West Main street. A cordial invitation is extend ed all members to attend. Mission Day to be Observed at First Baptist Church Day of Prayer for state mis sions will be observed at the First Baptist church in this city Mon day afternoon at 3:30, with a spe cial program in charge of Mrs. T. G. Harris. All members of the W. M. S. are invited to be present. Presbyterian Auxiliary Meets With Mrs. Morran Hanks The Woman's Auxiliary of the Presbyterian church met Mohday afternoon with Mrs. Morgan Hanks at her home on Hospital Road, with six members present. The devotionals were in charge of Mrs. Leßoy Campbell. Mrs. Hanks presented the program on "Leadership." McNeill Honoring Mrs. James Hayes of Beckley, West Virginia, who was her guest last week, Mrs. C. A. McNeill entertained at a delight ful informal luncheon at her home on Bridge Street Thursday at one o'clock. Fall flowers were used as a cen terpiece for the luncheon table, where covers were placed for six. Guests in addition to Mrs. Hay es were: Miss Effie Crater, Mr. and Mrs. Athel Phillips and Mr. and Mrs. Jake' Jones. Mrs. McNeer Is Hostess To v Honor Neice Honoring her neice, Miss Carol Fields, of Mouth-of-Wilson, Va. f Mrs. E. F. McNeer entertained at a lovely party at her home on Church street Thursday after noon. Cubical hearts were played at two tables. In the games an attractive prize was awarded Lucy Brewer. Those invited were: Lucy Brew er, Virginia Graham, Gene Click Betsy Click, Betty -McNeely, Dor othy Jean Salmons, Cynthia Al len and Maxine Aldridge. Mrs. Gwyn is Hostess to Bridge Club Thursday Having as guests members of her bridge club, Mrs. Paul Gwyn entertained at a lovely morning party followed by a luncheon at one o'clock, at her home on Gwyn Avenue Thursday. Pall flowers were used in the living room, where two tables were placed for the games. In the final count of scores the club award for high score went to Mrs. R. M. Hudgins. Members playing were:' Mes dames J. R. Poindexter, Ruohs Pyron, Errol Hayes, R. C. Free man, A. B. Somers, Chas. O. Ash by, Raymond Chatham and R. M. Hudgins. Snow-Alberty Of interest to friends through out this section of the county is the wedding of Miss Era Alberty to John Allen Snow. The marriage was solemnized at Hillsville, Vir ginia, Saturday, September 4. Following the wedding Mr. and Mrs. Snow left for a short trip through Virginia and eastern Tennessee. The bride is the youngest daughter of Mrs. Nannye Alberty and the late Everette Alberty of Fairview. She was educated at Dobson high school and Draughn's Business school, Winston-Salem. The bridegroom Is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Winfield Snow of Dob son. Mr. and Mrs. Snow will make their home at Dobson. Miss Myers Is Hoostess At Farewell Party Miss Blanche Myers, who with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thom as Myers, will move this week to ELKIN, N. C„ THURSDAY. The affair was held on the spacious tewn, which was brilliantly lighted with yari-col ored bulbs. Games and dancing were en joyed and the evening was cli maxed with a scavenger hunt, in which prizes were awarded Miss Rosamond Neaves and Robert Nicks. Refreshments, consisting of ices, cakes and lemonade, were served during the eVening. Mrs. Stewart is Hostess at Dinner Sunday Mrs. L. M. Stewart was hostess at dinner at her home on West Main street Sunday to honor her husband and Mrs. Glenn Lewis on their birthday anniversaries. The lovely table, where covers were placed for six, was centered with a huge, two-tier birthday cake, decorated in red and white, end bearing candles for each of the honor guests. Red gladioli and white asters red and white tapers further accentuated the chosen color motif. A beautifully appointed dinner was served. Those present were: Mr. and- Mrs. Glenn Lewis, Mr. and Mrs. John Gilliam and Mr. and Mrs. Stewart. Miss Paul Is Hostess To Honor Sister Saturday Afternoon Honoring her sister, Mrs. C. A. Crews, of Henderson, Miss Jose phine Paul was hostess at a love ly party at her home on Terrace Avenue Saturday afternoon. Four tables were placed on the south lawn for bridge. The nat ural beauty of the garden was enhanced with huge bowls of ear ly autumn flowers. In the pro gressions the high score award went to Mrs. Raymond Chatham and the runner-up prize to Mrs. James Booher. Mrs. Crews was presented a lovely remembrance as guest of honor. Eight additional friends came in for the refreshment hour at five o'clock- In this group Mrs. E. F. McNeer drew the prize. A tempting and beautifully appointed collation was served. Miss Neaves and Mr. Graham Entertain at Dance Miss Rosamond Neaves and Billy Graham entertained at a delight ful dance Monday evening at the home of Mr. Graham on Gwyn Avenue, to honor Miss Blanche Myers, who will move this week to her new home on the Elkin- Swan Creek road, and Dicky Shu gart, who will leave this week for' Tennessee Military Academy, Sweetwater, Tenn. The lower floor of the home was thrown ensuite for the enter tainment of the guests, and lavish ly decorated with a wealth of au tumn flowers. The guest list in eluded thirty-five members of the high school set. Miss Myers and Mr. Shugart were each presented remem brances from the host and hostess. Punch and wafers were served during the evening. Baptist Circles in Monthly Meet ings Monday Afternoon The regular monthly meeting of the circles of the Woman's Mis sionary Union of the First Baptist church were held Monday after noon in the following homes: The Emma Leechman circle met with Miss Ella Cockerham on West Main street, with twelve members and two visitors present. Mrs. T. L. Parnell presided over the business meeting. Mrs. Roy West directed th% program and conducted the devotionals. The subject "The Chinese People andl' Their Customs" was studied si multaneously by each group. The Neal Young circle met with Mrs. R. P. Crater on Gwyn Ave nue, with twelve members and one visitor present. Mrs. I. C. Yates presided over the meeting and di rected the program, assisted by Mrs. S. O. Maguire and Mrs. C. A. McNeill. The Naomi Shell circle met with Mrs. W. W. Byrd on Elk Spur ttreet, with nine members and one visitor present. Mrs. J. F. Moseley presided over the meet ing and the devotionals were in charge of Mrs. George Chatham. Mrs. Silas Nichols, Mrs. T. G. Har | ris, Mrs. J. F. Cooke and Mrs. Grady Harris presented the' pro gram. Methodist Circles Meet Monday Afternoon The circles of the Woman's Missionary Society of the Meth odist church met in regular ses sion Monday afternoon at 3:30 in the following homes: Circle number one met with Mrs. J. F. Hendren on West Main street. Mrs. Hendren con ducted the devotionals and the' program on "Africa," was pre sented by Mesdames M. A. Biggs and Fred Colhard. I Circle number two met with! Mrs. R. L. Harris on West Main 1 street with Mrs. French Graham associate hostese, with twelve j members present. Mrs. E. F. l'fli Gateway to Roaring Gap and the Blue Ridge PUBLISHED WEEKLY v McNeer led the devotional period. A miscellaneous program was presented by Mesdames Chas. O. Ashby, W. A. Finney and H. P. Graham. A vocal solo by Mrs. Fletcher Harris was enjoyed. Circle number three met with Mrs. E. O. Click on Circle Court. The devotionals were in charge of Mrs. Richard Chatham. The program was presented by Mes dames Mason Lillard, Marion Al len and Errol Hayes. A social hour was enojyed at the conclusion of the programs. Each hostess served a tempting refreshment course. A vacationist is a person who thinks friends back home give a darn how many blankets he sleeps under.
