C., was a visitor in the "home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Brown over the week-end. The revival meeting came to a close at the Baptist church on Thursday evening with 44 addi tions to the church. Bush and children. Betty and Bobby of Lenoir on Sunday. Mrs. Kathryn Brown Wells ac companied them home to be their guest the first part of this week. Mrs. N. P. Carpenter of Roar ing River, was the Sunday guest in the home of Miss Nettie Hol brook. Misses Lexie Cumznings and Margaret Lyons spent the week end in Wheeling, W. Va., with friends. Miss Anne Castevens, of Cycle, was the week-end guest in the home of Mrs. Mabel Thompson. Mrs. Dal Ingram returned home the latter part of last week from Davis hospital and is much im proved. Miss Doris Thompson left Wed nesday morning to enter Junior College at Raleigh to take a busi ness course. Mrs. Allie Privett has as her guest this week her mother, Mrs. M. A. Wilmoth, of Richmond, Va. Miss Iris Minlsh spent the week end in Yadkinville the guest of Miss Blanche Long. Mrs. John Mayberry and son, Gayle and Mrs. M. M. May berry and daughter, Nancy Ann spent Wednesday in Winston-Salem. Miss Rama Blackwood left Monday for Greensboro where she will enter North Carolina College for Women. The friends of Mrs. Vallie Harp will be glad to learn that she is improving from a recent illness. Mr. Sherman Pinnix, of Wins ton-Salem and Mr. John Weaver, of Statesville, were visitors in the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Ray on Sunday. Messrs. H. C. Lyons and F. E. Newman attended the Woodman's conference and banquet held at the King Cotton hotel in Greens boro on Tuesday evening. The Methodist W. M. U. Meets Tuesday Evening The Methodist W- M. U. met at the Methodist church on Tuesday evening, September 7. Miss Iris Minish had prepared an interest ing program. She was assisted by Mrs. P. L. Smith and Miss Rosalee Minish. Following the program the busi ness session was presided over by the president, Mrs. L. S. Weaver. Plans for a picnic for the mem bers and their families were made. Also discussion of various other business. The Woman's Missionary Society Meets at Home of Miss Reeves The Delia Woodhouse and the Rose Marlowe circles of W. M. S. of the Baptist church met in joint session at the home of Miss Dessie Reeves with Mrs. F. A. Lineberry associate hostess, on Tuesday eve ning, Sept. 14. Mrs. M. A. Hol comb, general president, presided. After the devotional an interest ing program was directed by Mrs. G. S. Wagoner with the "Japa nese" as the topic, it was ably dis cussed by the following members: Mesdames D. R. Castevens, M. A v Holcomb, Odell Holcomb, Misses Bertha Adams, Doris Thompson and Thelma Shore. After a brief business meeting Mrs. Holcomb presented to Miss Doris Thompson, who is leaving Wednesday for Peace Institute, lovely linen handkerchiefs. The hostesses served refresh ments to twenty members and three new members. Miss Mildred Harris, Mrs. Roy Seagraves and Mrs. Arthur Spainhour. | ROCKFORD Mr. Wayne Thore has bought the property formerly owned by Mr. E. M. Bryant and is remod eling and painting. Mr. Thore has recently returned to Rock ford from Dobson, to make his home. Mr. Thomas Pruett has been transferred to Winston-Salem where he will continue his con nection with the Southern Rail way. Mr. Pruett was employed by the maintenance of way di vision and he will be succeeded by Mr. Daniel Coe. Mr. Pruett and his family have moved to Winston-Salem. x School will open here on Sep tember 21st. The faculty will be the same as last year. Mr. Nor man of Dobaon, will act as prin cipal and Mrs. Braxton Burrus and Mrs. Robert Burrus will serve under his direction. j The fourth and last quarterly, meeting of the Methodist Eplsco-j pal church, South, for this year was held at Rockford churqh on Sunday afternoon at 3:00 o'clock. Dr. W. A. Lambeth, presiding el der of the Winston-Salem Dis-| trict of which' this sectionals now a part, conducted the meeting. Mr. James Houck and his cousin, Claude Houck, Jr., of Winston-Salem, returned home after having spent* several days with Mr. and Mrs. Graham. Mr. Claude Houck, Jr., is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Austin Houck of Sparta, and has recently accepted em ployment with Chatham Manu facturing company in Winston- Salem. ROYALLS, MILES AND BROOKS ARE TO MEET The annual reunion of the Roy all family, together with the Miles and Brooks families, will be held Sunday, September 26, at liber ty Knobs church, Alleghany county, 2 1-2 miles south of Roar ing Gap post office. Several noted speakers have been engaged for the event and many choirs and quartettes will attend. The program is schedul ed to begin at 10 o'clock in the morning. Attorney Forest G. Miles of Winston-Salem, and Rev. C. N. Royall, pastor of the First Bap tist church in High Point, will be two of the outstanding speakers of the day.
