Ait ice-Davis Wedding Announced The following announcement has been made bv the bride's pa rents: "Mr. and Mrs. Burgle Lee Altice announce the marriage of their daughter, Nina Katherine, to Mr. Grant Calvin Davis, on Saturday, August 28, 1937, Pu laski, Virginia." Mrs. Davis is a native of near Roanoke, Virginia, and Mr. Davis, a son of Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Da vis, is a native of Galax, Virginia. At present Mr. Davis is associated ■with Klondike Farm here. At the close of the spirited progressions the club award for high score went to Mrs. Chas. G. Ashby and the guest prize to Mrs. E. C. Grler. Those enjoying Mrs. Freeman's hospitality were: Mesdames Paul Gwyn, Chas. G. Ashby, Raymond Chatham, J. R. Poindexter, A. B. Somers, Ruohs Pyron, E. C. Grier and H. C. Graham. Held Tuesday Afternoon The annual reception given by members of the Parent-Teacher Association to honor members of the school faculty, will be held Tuesday afternoon at 4 o'clock in the elementary school building. At 3:30 the same afternoon a brief business session of the as sociation will be held at the same place. All members of the Parent- Teacher Association are request ed to be present for the meeting, which is one of the most import ant of the year. Third Quarterly Meeting of Methodist W. M. S. Is Held The third quarterly meeting ofr the Woman's Missionary Society of the Methodist church was held at the church Monday afternoon, with a splendid attendance. Mrs. J. L. Hall, president of the society, presided over the business session, which featured quarter ly reports and plans for a mis sion study class to be held the third week in October. The devo tionals were also in charge of Mrs. Hall. The program was presented by circle number three, Mrs. Rich ard Chatham, leader, with Mes dames James Booher, R. B. Har rell, Mason Lillard and Lena Dockery presenting a resume of the study for the month. Halsey-Fields Of interest to both friends of the bride and bridegroom here is the wedding of Miss Anna Gra ham Halsey and W. Both Mr. and Mrs. Fields are members of. prominent Virginia families and both are well known here, where they have frequently visited. Mrs. Fields is a grand daughter of Mrs. Anna Graham of this city. Mr. Fields, a son of Mrs. W. C. Fields and the late Mr. Fields, is a half-brother of Mrs. E. F. McNeer of this city. Following a honeymoon to New Orleans and other places in the South, Mr. and Mrs. Fields will be at home at Mouth-of-Wilson. Mr. and Mrs. Booher Entertain At Bridge-Dinner Mr. and Mrs. James Booher entertained at a delightful bridge-dinner at their home on Gwyn Avenue Friday evening, having as guests members of their bridge club and one addi tional couple, Mr. and Mrs. Claude Farrell. The home was- lovely with a wealth of dahlias in brilliant colors. Dinner was served upon arrival of the guests from card tables arranged in the living room. During the evening bridge was enjoyed. The high score trophy went to Dr. and Mrs. Hugh Parks at the conclusion of the Play. Those enjoying the hospitality of Mr. and Mrs. Booher were: Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Harris, Dr. and Mrs. Hugh Parks, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Roth, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Eller, Mr. and Mrs. Frank lin Folger and Mr. and Mrs. Claude Farrell. Baptist General Meeting at Church Monday Afternoon The general meeting of the circles of the Woman's Mission ary Society of the First Baptist church was held in the church parlor Monday afternoon, with a splendid attendance. The meeting opened with the hymn, "I Need Thee Every Hour," followed by the watchword in unison. The devotionals were in charge of Mrs. C. N. Myers, who used as her theme "Christian Missionaries." Mrs. Roy West offered the opening prayer. A brief business session was held with Mrs. F. M. Norman, general president, presiding. The program, under the direc tion of the Naomi Shell circle, Mrs. J. F.- Moseley, chairman, featured a talk by Mrs. Eph Whisenhunt on the Japanese people, the subject for study during the month. Julian-Walker A wedding of much interest was solemnized Saturday even ing at eight-thirty in the Denny ville Baptist church, when Miss Vena Eloise Julian became the bride of George William Walker. Rev. N. T. Jar vis officiated, using the ring ceremony of the Baptist church. Mrs. Spencer Wellborn of Cy cle, furnished the wedding mu sic. The young couple were attend ed by Mr. and Mrs. Percy Ray Haithcock of Cedar Falls, N. C, sister and brother-in-law of the # bride. The bride wore a fall dress of rust and brown wool with brown accessories and a corsage of Tal isman rosebuds and lily-of-the valley. Mrs. Walker is the second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. S. Julian of Cedar Falls, N. C„ where she has spent practically her entire life. She was grad uated from Franklinville high school with the class of '3l. The bridegroom is a native of, Dennyvllle and is a graduate of Ronda high school. He Is a son 1 of Mrs. Lillie Walker and a neph ew of L. F. Walker of this city. The young couple will make their home in Randleman, where Mr. Walker is associated with the Commonwealth Hosiery Mills. Mrs. A. T. Woodruff is Honored on Eighty-Fifth Anniversary Mrs. J. P. Ipock entertained at a family dinner at her home on Bridge street Sunday, honoring her mother, Mrs. A. T. Woodruff on her eighthy-fifth birthday an niversary. C. grandchildren of Mrs. Woodruff, twenty-three in number, were present for the event, there being only three grandchildren absent. Dinner was served picnic style on the spacious lawn at the rear of the home. The natural beauty of the grounds made a perfect setting for the gathering. A huge birthday cake bearing eighty-five lighted candles adorned the table placed for the honcree. Those attending were: Mrs. Woodruff, Dr. and Mrs. T. W.
