News of Jonesville! Mrs. Gnrney Wagoner, Editor RMHM 48-W I Mr. and Mrs. Bent Martin and Mrs. Pearl Pardue visited their brother, Davis Martin, at Roan oke, Va., on Saturday. Mr. Martin is a patient there in a veteran's hospital. His condition is unim proved. The friends of Miss Beulah Smith will be glad to learn that she shows some improvement to her recent illness. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Gray had as their guests over the week-end Misses Ethel Gray and Dollie Poster of Ronda. Rev. and Mrs. D. G. Reece and daughter, Sarah Lou and Mr. and Mrs. Alex Biggs of Elkin spent the week-end to Roxobel with their son, Mr. Davis Reece and Mrs. Reece. Mr. H. C. Lyons has been con fined, to his home this week with tonsilitis. His friends wish him a speedy recovery. Mr. Sant Vestal and sons, Rayner and Warner, of Basset, Va., spent the week-end here with Mrs. Vestal. Mr. and Mrs. Vern Cockerham of Elkin, spent the week-end with her mother, Mrs. A. C. Davis. Misses Carrie Taylor and Mar garet Renegar of Raleigh, spent the week-end here with relatives. The friends of Mrs. Naomi Groce and Mrs. Bent Martin will regret to learn that they are ill this week. The Parent-Teacher Association will hold its first meeting on Thursday night, Oct. 7 at 7:30. All parents and teachers are urged to attend this meeting. Prof, and Mrs. L. S. Weaver and sons, Stacey, Charles and Walter, were the week-end guests of his parents, Dr. and Mrs. C. C. Wea ver at Charlotte. Rev. and Mrs. P. L. Smith had as their guest his brother, Mr. W. C. Mr. Melvin Vestal is confined to his home this week with illness. Mr. S. B. Minick of Chambers burg, Pa., is spending a few days this week with his brother, W. B. Minick of Jonesville, route. He also visited Mr. and Mrs. R. Q. Boles on Wednesday. Mrs. W. O. Gilbert and little Jerry Parks, of Winston-Salem are spending this week with her sister, Mrs. W. P. Reece, Sr. Mrs. Gaither Pardue entered Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospit al a few days ago and underwent an operation. Mr. Pete Mcßride, who has been working at Chatham's Wins ton-Salem, has accepted a posi tioh with the Greyhound Bus Co. and passed through town on Sun day and spent a short while with his mother, Mrs. D. D. Mcßride. The friends of Mrs. Jones Byrd and Mrs. Ed Vestal will regret to learn that they are ill this week. Mrs. C. J. Holcomb was able to return to her mother's, Mrs. Miles Sprouse, Boonville, from Davis hospital last Wednesday. Rose Marlowe Circle Meets With Mrs. Mayberry The Rose Marlowe circle of the Baptist W. M. U. met on Tuesday evening at the home of Mrs. Mar vin Mayberry. Mrs. Jack Brown, , president, presided over the meeting. Mrs. H. C. Lyons directed the devo tional. A very interesting pro gram on the Chinese people was conducted by Mrs. Ruth Johnson. She was assisted by Mrs. D. R. Castevens, Misses Bertha Adams, Thelma Shore and Ruby Bray, Mrs. G. S. Lucy Stout Sunbeams Meet Tuesday Evening The Lucy Stout Sunbeams of the Baptist church met at the church on Tuesday evening for their regular meeting. Miss Lor raine Lirieberry led them in an interesting program, "Shining in China." Ihe following members were present: June Boles, Doro thea Chappel, Pauline Privette, Magadelene Burcham, Jean Mad ison, Nancy Mayberry, Sarah Lou Reece, Cornelia, Jean and Leonard Lineberry and one visit or, Olenda Mae Luff man. Mcßride-Swahn A wedding of much interest in this section took place at the home of Rev. G. M. Turner, Bap tist minister, Danville, Va., on Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock, when Miss Vonda Swaim became bride of Clyde Mcßride. Th& vows were spoken by Rev. Turner. The bride is the only daughter of Mrs. Julia Swaim Wagoner and the late Ernest Swaim. She re ceived her education at Jonesville High School and graduated with the class of '36. The bride wore a grey woolen suit with harmoninzing accessor ies. The bridegroom is the young est son of Mr. and Mrs. John Mc- Bride of Jonesville, R. F. D. Both Mr. and Mrs. Mcßride hold a position with Chatham Manufacturing Co. and at the present they are making their home with the bridegroom's par ents.
