According to information re ceived from Horvey Norman, sec retary, this year's event is ex pected to be bigger and better in every way than have been pre vious fairs, and no Stone is be ing left unturned to provide fair visitors with four days of real en joyment and entertainment. Considerable interest is being shown in the farm exhibit de partments. it was said, with many Ambers planning to enter the aSnpetltion. Officials of the fair are, in ad dition to Secretary Norman, J. R. Williams, president, and A. E. Harrell, treasurer. COOL SPRINGS Mr. Robert Burcham and sis ter, Miss Ruby of Jonesville, were week-end guests of their sister, Mrs. Paul Newman. Of interest to friends here and elsewhere is the announcement of the marriage of Mr. Charlie Swaim and Miss Hazel Mathis, solemnized at Independence, Va., Saturday. The bride is the daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Mathis. The groom is the son of the late Enoch Swaim and Mrs. Swiam. for them a happy life. Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Hanes of State Road, Mr. and Mrs. B. H. Linder, Mr. Olen Harris and sister, Ray, attended the Rowan County Pair at Salisbury Satur day. While there they were guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Linder. Lowe were the week-end guests of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Lowe. We rgret to note that due to a decrease in attendance, Mine Ridge school has lost one teacher. Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Snow of Leaksville visited their son, George Snow and Mrs. Snow last week. SHOALY BRANCH The revival meeting began at cur church Sunday night. Due to the rain the crowd was rather small. We earnestly hope for a great revival before the meeting comes to a close. Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Spencer were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Adams Saturday night. Miss Opal Adams and Robert Spencer entered the Wilkes hos pital Monday for tonsil opera tions. We hope for them a speedy recovery. Mr. and Mrs. H. P. Tulbert and Mrs. A. T, Gentry attended the Associational meeting at Bessie's Chapel last week. Brinham Burcham of Lynch burg, Va„ visited his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Burcham, over the week-end. • Mr. and Mrs. Dallas Carter of Elkin, visited Mr. and Mrs. Gur ney Draughn, the latter their daughter, Sunday. PLEASANT HILL Misses Irene Day, Vermeil Mon ey, Gladys Couch and Mr. David Day spent last Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Bessie's Chapel at tending the Elkin Association. The occasion was a glorious and a happy one. Mr. D. E. Brooome was a guest in t;he home of Mr. and Mrs. Eu gene Couch the latter part of last week. Mr. Broome also visited the church during his stay here. Rev. R. R. Crater preached at Pleasant Hill church Sunday night. His subject was "Ye Salt of the Earth." Rev. Crater is a newly ordained minister and we were very glad to have him preach one of his first sermons in our church. Misses Bernice Wellborn and Vermeil Money sang a special song during the service Sunday night. They were accompanied at the piano by Miss Jessie Burcham.
