Mrs. Sam Ray of Statesville, visited in the home of Mr* and Mrs. J. Q. Ray on Tuesday. A large crowd attended the fun eral of Mrs. Sadie Pardue at Pall Creek last Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. K. W. York and daughter, Mrs. Lynn Keever and Mr. and Mrs. Dwight York, of Stony Point, were guests in the home of Mrs. ingifem recently. Miss Doris Thompson of Ral eigh, spent the week-end with her mother, Mrs. Mabel Thompson. Miss Ruth Mayberry spent the week-end in Winston-Salem the guest of relatives. Rev. A. M. The friends of Mrs. W. V. Hol comb will be glad to learn thatf che was able to begin her work as teacher in the school last Mon day. Mrs. John Weaver spent the week-end in Statesville with her husband, Mr. Weaver and they attended the pharmacist's ban quet held at Salisbury on Sunday evening. Mrs. Thomas Wagoner wishes to thank Mr. and Mrs. Jeter Hay nes for returning her money that she lost on the streets of Elkin. A number of people from here attended the fair at Winston-Sa lem last week. Mr. E. B. Barrett, of Clemmons, S. C., visited in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Brown during the week-end. Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Holcomb and son, Flake, and Mrs. J. P. Phillips visited in the home of Mr., and Mrs. Lee Holcomb at Center on Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Clint Holcomb has return ed to her home after being a pa tient at Davis Hospital, her friends will be glad to learn. Her mother, Mrs. Miles Sprouse re turned home Tuesday after being here with Mrs. Holcomb for sev eral days. Misses Edna and Ruby Bray spent the week-end at Boone vis iting friends and attending the homecoming held there Sunday. Mrs. Evan Martin underwent a very serious operation at the Hugh Chatham Memorial Hos pital last Friday and her friends wish her a speedy recovery. Mr. and Mrs. Otis Pelts and children, of Winston-Salem,' vis ited relatives here during the week-end. John B. Stout of Jonesville poute, is very sick at this writing. His many friends wish for him a speedy recovery. Master Gray Wagoner was the guest of his cousin, Allen Wag oner on Monday night. Miss JSvelyn Arnold of Wilkesboro, spent the week-end here with relatives. David Lovelace, son of Mr. and Mrs. D. H. Lovelace, is ill this week. Mrs. W. O. Gilbert, of Winston- Salem, and her sister, Mrs. W. P. Reece, were guests of their niece and daughter, Mrs. M. M. May berry on Thursday. Miss Sallie Mcßride, of New port, Penn. and Mrs. Lizzie Phelps and daughter, Peggy, of Baltimore, Md., were guests in the home of their brother, D. D. Mcßride and Mrs. Mcßride. Little Miss Marion Martin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Evan Martin, entered Hugh Chatham Hospital on Sunday for treat ment. The friends of Mrs. W. P. Jones formerly of here, but now of State Road, will regret to learn that she is ill this we^k. The A Ma Grayson Y. W. A. Meets With Miss Brandon The Alda Grayson Y. W. A. of the Baptist church met for its regular meeting Hazel Bran don's on October 12. New officers were elected as follows: presi dent, Virginia Lineberry; vice president, Hazel Brandon; secre tary, Georgia Vestal; treasurer, Madelyn Thompson; chairman of the program committee, Alda Sue Hemric. A very interesting program was directed by Virginia Lineberry on "Customs in China." A display of things made in China was ex hibited. Following the program a refreshment course was enjoyed by all and the meeting was ad journed. Misses Juanita and Edwina Ray Entertain Misses Juanita and Edwina Ray entertained a number of young people at their home on Satur day evening with a party. During the evening many games were played and at the close refresh ments were served to the follow ing; Virginia Lee Holcomb, ✓'Frances Gilliam, Dixie Chappel, Eloise Sparks, Kemp Reece, Russell Ves tal, Lott Mayberry, Thad Martin and Reece Shugart. Bobby Martin Honored With Birthday Party Mr. and Mrs. Sam Martin hon ored their son, Bobby, with a birthday party at their home on Cherry street on Monday evening, October 11, in honor of his ninth anniversary. A number of games and con tests were enjoyed by the chil dren. Prizes were awarded to Al len and Gray Wagoner, winners in a number of games. The fol lowing children enjoyed the eve ning. Honor guest, Bobby Martin, Allen Wagoner, Dickie Stuart, Billie, Evelyn, Francis and Nancy Rhyne, Betty Jean and Tommy Joe Darnell, James Pardue, Lind berg Swaim, Helen Lyons, Gray Wagoner, Carlyle Hall and Rit chie Adams. Little Miss June Boles gave two violin selections, accompanied at the piano by her mother, Mrs. R. O. Boles, and a vocal solo by Miss Laura Joyner was also enjoyed.
