Smoot-Swaim The marriage of Miss Minnie Mae Swaim and Prank Smoot was solemnized at Independence, Va., October 17. The vows were spoken by Rev. T. R. Windsor. The bride is the daughter of Mr. Tom Swaim of near Eikin and the bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. L. S. Smoot of Jonesville and holds a position with the Elkin Furniture Co. At the present they will make their home with the bridegroom's parents in Jonesville. Miss Brandon Entertains Miss Hazel Brandon entertain ed a group of friends at her home cn Friday evening, October 15. Games were enjoyed during the evening. Each member invited a girl friend and the evening was enjoyed by all. After the social hour was over the class business was carried on and the young la dies organized a Y. W. A. and the idea of organizing a B. T. U. was also discussed, but action was de ferred until a later date. The many friends of Mrs. Mat tie Smith are glad to learn that she is recovering from a recent ill ness. Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Reece had as their dinner guest Sunday eve ning Rev. L. G. Burgiss. Miss Elizabeth Pardue was ill the latter part of last week. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Darnell and little daughter, Catherine, of Pleasant Hill were the week-end guests of Mr. and Mrs. John Wall. CYCLE "Rev. Enoch Woo ten, who re cently accepted the pastorate of Oak Orove church, filled the ap pointment there Saturday and Sunday. Residents of the Oak Grove community are requested to meet Saturday morning to clean the cemetery. Dewey Myers of South Caro lina, was a visitor in this section Sunday. A number of people from here attended the quartette singing at Union church Sunday afternoon. Rev. W. V. Brown, of Boonville, a former resident of this com munity, was the guest Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. M. C. Dobbins. Mr. and Mrs. Lytle Redding were Stfhday guests of Mr. and Mrs. P. L. Cheek. Minton Brown and Leonard Stokes were business visitors here Saturday. The Boone Trail from Yadkin ville to the Wilkes county line is being resurfaced. This will great ly improve the road I for winter traffic. Tom Cheek and P. L. Cheek were business visitors in Elkin Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. N. B.
