The guest list included younger members of the high school set. A number of games and contests were enjoyed. The honoree was presented an array of miscellaneous gifts from the guests. The hostesses served a delicious , refreshment course course at the conclusion of the games. Little Miss Elizabeth Eller Cele brates Birthday Mrs. Clyde Eller honored her little daughter, Elizabeth, on her fourth birthday anniversary Tues day afternoon with a party at their . home on Bridge street. Twenty chcildren were invited to share the delightful event with the honoree. A number of games were enjoyed. The decorations were suggestive of a circus. Balloons were fes tooned from the ceiling and the birthday cake was decorated in animal crackers. Dixie cups were served the children and they were presented souvenirs of ballons and all-day suckers. Mesdames Yates and Brown En tertain at Farewell Party As a farewell courtesy to Mrs. Vance Brown, who will leave the first of November for Shelby to make her home, Mesdames I. C. Patty Graham Celebrates Fourth Birthday Anniversary Saturday Patty Graham, small daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Graham was honored at a delightful party at their home on West Main Street Saturday afternoon when her mother entertained eighteen girls and boys of a similar age in celebration of her fourth birth day anniversary. The home was decorated throughout with Jack O' Lanterns, autumn leaves and Hallowe'en symbols. Miss Dorothy Halsey of Mouth of Wilson, Va., assisted Mrs. Graham in direct ing a number of games and con tests. In the dining room, where the guests were invited for refresh ments, a gaily decorated birthday cake, topped with four lighted candles, was the central decora tion. Dixie cups and cookies, orna mented with Hallowe'en symbols, were served the little guests, and eah was presented an attractive favor. Garden Club Has Distinguished Visitors at Meeting The Yadkin Valley Garden Club meeting at the home of Mrs. H. C. Salmons on Church street Friday afternoon, had as visitors, Mrs. R. L. McMillan of Raleigh, state president, Mrs. J. H. Barnwell, Burlington, Piedmont district di rector, and Mrs. McDowell, of Winston-Salem. Both Mrs. Mc- Millan and Mrs. Barnwell made interesting talks on work in the state and district and the pro gram was concluded with a round table discussion by the members on questions of interest. Mrs. J. S. Atkinson, president of the club, presided over the bus iness session. The Hallowe'en motif was car ried out in detail in the delicious salad course which was served at the conclusion of the program. Members attending were: Mes dames J. S. Atkinson, W. W. Whitaker, M. McNeer was hostess at a lunch eon at her home on Church street Saturday at one o'clock. The lovely table, where covers were placed for twelve, had as its central decoration a wedding scene. The bride, dressed in tra ditional white satin, was sur rounded by bridesmaids and flow er girls in dresses of pastel shades, and the bridegroom and groomsmen in full dress suits. The whole was against a background of wedding bells and silver canda labrae, holding tall white tapers. Wedding bells, showered with sat in ribbons fell from the chande lier. A beautifully appointed lunch eon was served. Miss Chatham was presented a Madeira bridge set and Mrs. Chatham was given a Sunday night supper tray. In cutting for the prize Mrs. James Booher received an attrac tive gift. Whitaker celebrated their fortieth wedding anniversary quietly Sunday at their home on Church street. Only the immediate families of Mr. and Mrs. Whitaker were pres- ent and they were invited for the day. At one o'clock a beautifully appointed buffet dinner was ser ved, in the dining room gorgeous white chrysanthemums were used, a huge wedding cake, topped with j a miniature bride and bridegroom and decorated in green and white, with the inscription 1897-1637, graced the center of the table. The scene was lighted with tall white tapers in green holders. Mrs. E. E. Hayes of this city and Mrs. Hoy Moose of ' Mount Pleasant, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Whlt aker, and Mrs. R. B. Parent-Teachers in Monthly Ses sion Tuesday Afternoon Members of the Parent-Teach er Association met Tuesday after noon in the elementary school auditorium in the regular monthly session. Mrs. C. L. Haywood, Jr., president of the association, pres ided over the meeting. It was urged during the meet ing that adolescent boys and girls and adults see the picture "Dam aged Goods", to be shown at a local theatre next week. The pic ture, which is highly rated, deals with social diseases. Since the last meeting of the association the WPA has installed a lunch room in the elementary school, under the direction of Mrs. Myrtle Sprinkle, and light but substantial lunches are served the children for a small fee. It is hoped that within a short time that lunches may be furnished without charge to some of the children of the school. Klondike Farm is furnishing milk at cost for the lunches and an ice box to keep the food fresh has been loaned by Elkin Plumb ing and Heating Company. Mr. and Mrs. J. Mark McAdams have loaned a stove for preparing the food and other donations of equipment and money for the lunchroom have been made by in terested parties. Those interest ed in making a contribution to the work are asked to call cither Mrs. C. L. Haywood, Jr., or Mrs.! Errol Hayes, who will call for them. A small amount will feed an undernourished child for a month, and this is the primary aim of the lunch room. The attendance award was won by Miss Lucille Young's sixth grade. The program was in charge of Miss Addie Malone of Charlotte, and Leßoy Campbell of this city, and was an illustrated lecture on proper lighting. ZEPHYR ' ' Reported By Seventh Grade Rev. E.
