Grady Burgise has ac cepted a call to the pastorate of the Ronda Baptist church to suc ceed the late Rev. W. A. Linney. He preached his first sermon at Ronda Sunday evening. Mrs. Munsey Slack of Bristol, Tenn., arrived Saturday for a vis it of several days to Mr. and Mrs. James Booher, the latter her daughter, at their home on Gwyn Avenue. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ashby and son, Robert, Jr., and Miss Genie Gwyn of Mount Airy, were the Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Holcomb, at their home on West Main street. Grady Burgiss, pastor of the Arlington and Ron da Baptist churches, left Monday for Wilmington, to attend the State Baptist convention. The convention will be in session through this evening. Miss Mable Starnes, associate secretary of the Training Union Department of the Baptist State convention, who sustained a frac tured back ,in an automobile ac cident near Mocksville, October 18, was transferred by ambu lance from Davis Hospital, Stat esville to the Norburn Hospital in Asheville 2ast week. Miss Starn es' home is in Asheville. She will possibly be confined to the hospi tal for two months yet, although her condition is improving. MARVIN LONG IS CLAIMED BY DEATH Mrs. Margaret Long, 18, wife of Marvin Long of near Brooks Cross Roads, was claimed by death Thursday, following a long Illness, suffering with cancer of the bone. Besides the husband and small child she is survived by her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Nance, Hamptonville, and the following brothers and sisters: Willie, Grady, Howard, Thomas, Lee Alvin, Doris, and Dennis. Funeral services were held at : Longtown M. S. church Friday morning at 11 o'clock, in charge of Rev. R. L. Speer and Rev. Y. D. Poole. Young Son Dies Fred Thomas Hayes, 13, eldest; son of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Hayes of Boonville, route 1, died at a Statesville hospital following a 1 long illness, Saturday. The young son was a student at West Yadkin school, in the sth grade. He is survived by his par ents, three brothers and two sisters. Funeral servicees were held at Oak Grove Baptist church Sim day morning at 11 o'clock, in charge of Rev. D. C. Clanton and Rev. Grady Burgess.
