this morning with Judge Clement
presiding. This will be a two
weeks term.
Miss Edyte Reece was hostess
at a dinner-bridge Saturday
evening. Covers were laid for
twenty guests and a four-course
dinner was served. An arrange
ment of chrysanthemums and
fall daisies made an attractive
background for 3 tables of bridge
and 2 of fiddle-sticks. The theme
and center piece for each table
were suggestive of the Thanks
giving season, with vases of small
yellow flowers, surrounded by tur
keys and candied fruits and vege
tables. The high score bridge prize
a box of Yardley's dusting pow
der, was won by Mrs. J. W.
Crawford, while consolation,
Yardley's talcum, went to Miss
Marguerite Alexander. The fiddle
sticks high score award, Yard
ley's dusting powder, was won by
Mrs. F. P. Riggs, and consolation,
Yardley's talcum, by Mrs. Eliza
beth Bolick. Men's prizes, Len
theric men's lotion, was won by

UNCLE NATCHEL BACK
IN NEW RADIO SERIES

Local radio fans will welcome
the return to the air next week of
Uncle Natchel and Sonny, the two
stars of the Natural Chilean Ni
trate of Soda program. The Nat
ural Chilean folks have announc
ed that these two favorites are
resuming broadcasts, beginning
Saturday, November 20th and
Sunday, November 21st on im
portant Southern stations.
The role of Uncle Natchel, wise
old colored philosopher and lead
ing character in the series of
broadcasts will be played by Frank
Wilson who is well known as a, ra
dio entertainer and as a stage and
film star. He gained considerable
renown for his performance as
Moses in the stage and film ver
sion of Green Pastures. Wilson's
characterization of Uncle Natchel
in a series of fifty-two broads
casts for the Chilean folks last
season, added to his laurels.
Sonny Miller, the young white
charge of kindly old Uncle Natch
el in the program will be played
by Eddie Ryan, Jr., a talented
twelve-year old actor from Vir
ginia who has made a number of
stage appearances in New York
Mid is now playing in "French
Without Tears" on Broadway. He
has appeared with Katherine Cor
nell, Helen Hayes and other stars,
and has been a part of the "Easy
Aces," "Dreams of Long Ago" and
other coast-to-coast radio pro
grams.
With the two featured players
on the Uncle Natchel program
will be a group of Southern sing
ers whose numbers will consist
largely of old songs of the South
collected and arranged by Ethel
Park Richardson, the author of
the sketches. An orchestra of
eleven pieces will provide the in
strumental features of the pro
gram. Artells Dixon, a native of
Greenwood, La., who has been
Identified with such radio suc
cesses as "Brer Rabbit Stories of
Joel Chander Harris." the "Rudy
Vallee" program, "Show Boat,"
"Roses and Drums" and many
others, has been engaged by the
Natural Nitrate folks to be the
announcer.
