There remains a good deal of
tobacco still to be marketed from
this section. Farmers have been
busy preparing soil for next year's
crops before the winter rain and
freezes.
Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Graham
and small daughter, Ellen, spent
Thanksgiving with relatives In
and near Winston-Salem.
Mr. Charles Hutchens, who was
brought up near Rockford, died
recently at his home in Winston-
Salem. He is survived by his wife,
formerly Miss Docia Brown and
several children. Mr. Hutchens
was, for many years a resident
of Mount Airy and had a wide
acquaintance in this county.
Mr. and Mrs. John Hudson,
their daughter, Mabel and son
Miller, were Thanksgiving guests
of Mr. and Mrs. Esca Hutchens
and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Coe.
The entire community was
shocked by the sudden death of
Mr. Joe Mather Folger on Sun
day, November 21 at his home in
Mount Airy. Mr. Folger spent his
early youth on his father's farm
near Rockford and for several
years after he was forced to give
up the Christian ministry be
cause of ill health resided at his
father's old home on Main Street.
His death was a distinct loss, not
only to this community but to the
Methodist Church in the state.
His gentle spirit and his conse
crated life were a benediction to
all who come in contact with him.
Mr. Folger is survived by his
wife, who was Miss Emma Welch
before her marriage. A son and a
daughter, by three brothers, Mil
ton, Grady and Julius, and one
sister. Miss Beulah.

improved after being seriously ill
with diphtheria.

spending several days here visit
ing the former's parents, Mr. and

Mrs. Sina Walker is spending
this week near Dennysville visit
ing relatives and friends and at
tending preaching services at that
place.
Mr. Mitchel Mahathey of Grassy
Knob, spent several days here
visiting W. C. Nicholson.
Miss Edith Walker spent last
week in Wilkes county visiting
her brother, Wade Walker and
Mrs. Walker.
We are glad to welcome Mr.
and Mrs. Raymond Henderson as
residents of our community.
Miss Eula Myers of Baltimore,
Md., returned to her home here
last Monday to spend the winter
months with her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. E. G. Myers.
Mr. and Mrs. Warren Macey
and children visited Mrs. Macey's
father last Sunday, Mr. Henry
