Afternoon
The general meeting of the cir
cles of the Woman's Missionary
Union of the First Baptist church
will be held at the church Mon
day afternoon, December 20, at
3:30. The program will, be in
charge of the Naomi Shell circle,
Mrs. J. F. Moseley chairman.
The Sunbeam Band will meet
at the church at the same hpur.
All members of both organiza
tions are invited to be present.

Club Wednesday
Mrs. A. O. Bryan entertained
members of the Wednesday Bridge
Club at an enjoyable bridge
luncheon Wednesday at her home
on West Main street. Luncheon
was served at one o'clock and dur
ing the afternoon bridge was
played at two tables. At the close
of the spirited progressions Mrs.
J. R. Poindexter received the high
score award.
Decorations appropriate to the
holiday season were used through
out the home.

Birthday Anniversary

during the evening. Miss Billings

Mathis-Mayee Wedding is

Announcement was made Tues
day of the marriage of Miss Elsie
Emma Mathls of Ronda, Route 2,
and Reece Thompson Mayes of
near State Road. The marriage
was solemnized in Independence,
Virginia, Saturday, December 11,
with Rev. F. L. Funk officiating.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Mathis and
the bridegroom is the only son of
Mr. and Mrs. Abraham Mayes.
Mr. and Mrs. Mayes are making
their home with the bridegroom's
parents.

At one o'clock a beautifully ap
pointed luncheon was served.

bridge-dinner Monday evening
when Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Lank
ford and Mr. and Mrs. Howard
Hatch entertained at the home of
the former on Hospital Road.
Christmas decorations made a
pretty setting for the five tables
which were placed for bridge. Mrs.
C. C. Poindexter and Dr. R. B.
Harrell received the high score
awards at the conclusion of the
games and the runner-up prizes
went to Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Hayes.

enjoyable meeting at her home

noon at the regular monthly
meeting. Three tables were placed
for varied games against a back
ground of Christmas decorations.!
Christmas place cards marked the
places of the guests. Scoring
honors in the games, linen hand
kerchiefs, went to Mesdames T. A.
Leeper, J. G. Abernethy and J. P.
Ipock.

The annual Christmas party of
the Woman's Auxiliary of the
George Gray Post of the Ameri
can Legion was held Monday
pvening at the home of Mrs. R. L.
Harris on West Main Street, with
Miss Mattie Mae Powell associate
hostess, with sixteen members
present.
The home was brilliantly deco-1
rated in Christmas colors. In this
living room blue was the chosen
color and in the library red pre- j
dominated. The two colors were j
blended in the decqrations. of thei
retention hall.
