A Dream-Shall It Come To Pass?
(By DR. CHAS. C. WEAVER)
Some years ago the writer spent
two weeks at Clifton Springs, N.
Y. Perhaps most of you know
that this great health resort was
at first established as a home for
missionaries who had retired or
might be on furlough. This ex
plains the religious character of
the present Sanatarium which has
grown up there. Who can say that
it does not also explain its growth?
The religious character is still
maintained. They have a Chap
lain who says grace at all meals;
who holds morning and evening
prayers in the Chapel and con
ducts Sunday services, and acts
as personal spiritual adviser to all
patients who need him. For ideal
rest conditions for body and soul
there is no better place.
But I am not trying to advertise
Clifton Springs. I am rather using
it as a text. When I first saw the
beautiful spot on which the Hugh
Chatham Hospital is situated, my
first thought was that when the
hospital was built we must move
for a sanitarium of similar sort to
be connected with it. I am more
than ever convinced that this is
the place for just such an insti
tution. One of those lovely hill
tops will be never be quite com
plete until it is crowned with a
building for just such a purpose.
This should be the next step and
it should be taken soon.
lam sure of two things. The
first is that it is needed. Southern
Methodism has no such place. Our
people have to go places wholly
secular where the sort of rest they
get is not rest at all, or have to
depend on our Adventist friends
as I did for a week two years ago.
We need a place where tired bod
ies, tired minds and tired souls
may find rest and restoration. I
am sure also that such a place
would be well supported and
would carry itself and perhaps
help take care of the hospital it
self. I was told by the manage
ment of one such institution that
it carried not only its own ex
penses but aided in many other
activities as well. All we need is
the building.
The need is here. The support

are we waiting for? For some one
or many to say to us "Rise up and
build?" Do I hear the voices in
response?

two other photographs are scenes of the interior of this new section.
Directly above is a view of the new solarium, beautifully furnished by us with modern new furniture of k
gleaming chrome finish frame with luxurious red leather upholstery. An attractive lifetime floor of
1 heavy linoleum lends beauty to the entire room.
Below is a photograph of one of the hospital rooms in the n£w addition, all of which are large, bright and
airy. In this room, as in all others, a majority of the furnishings was supplied by us. We also installed
all linoleum floors throughout the building.
