Valentine Party
Miss Gloria Morrison enter
tained twenty friends at an en
joyable Valentine party from 7
until 9 o'clock at her home on
Market street Monday evening.
Decorations suggestive of the sea
son were used throughout the
home. In the games Bay Bat
ledge won the prize.
Refreshments, in two courses,
were served and the favors were
assorted Valentine candies.

Club at their home on Church

Mrs. Whitaket Is Hostess at
Luncheon Saturday
Mrs. W. W. Whitaker enter
tained at a small, informal
luncheon at her home on Church
street Saturday, having as guests
a few close friends. Valentine
place cards marked the places of
the guests. Red candles in silver
holders arranged on the attrac
tively appointed table were also
suggestive of the Valentine sea
son. A three course luncheon was
served.
In drawing for the prizes
among the guests Mrs. H. C. Sal
mons and Mrs. B. C. Freeman
were the fortunate winners.
Woman's Club Benefit Party Is
Success
Eleven tables were in play at
the benefit party given by the
Woman's Club at Hotel Elkin
Tuesday evening. Proceeds of
the party will be used for the
public library here, which is one
of the main projects of the club.
Bridge prizes for high scores
went to Mr. and Mrs. Franklin
Folger. Mrs. Sam Neaves and
Howard Hatch won the runner
up prizes. The Chinese checker
prize went to Mrs. P. M. Greene.
A dessert course was served at
the conclusion of the Spring
flowers, Valentines and flags
were used in the decorations.

were used in the living room,
where two tables were placed for
the games. A tempting luncheon
was served upon the arrival of
the guests at one o'clock and dur
ing the afternoon bridge was
played. The club award for high
score went to Mrs. J. R. Poindex
ter.

Playmakers Club
Miss Agnes Gray delightfully
entertained members of the Play
makers Club at her home on
Franklin street Tuesday evening.
A color scheme of red and white,
suggestive of the Valentine seas
on. was used in the decorations
|of the home and appointments oi
the three tables. In the games
the high score award went to Miss
Lucy Gray. The traveling prize
went to Mrs. George Poley, Jr., of
Winston-Salem, guest of Mrs.
Gilbert Meed, and a special guest
of the club.
When the cards were laid aside
the tables were covered with lin
en cloths and centered with min
iature trees adorned with tiny
crimson hearts. Red ices, mould
ed in the shape of hearts and
topped with white cupids, were
served with cake and coffee.
Mrs. Stewart Is Hostess To Class
Tuesday
The Dorcas class of the Sun
day school of the First Baptist
church met at the home of Mrs.
L. M. Btewart in Sunset Park
Tuesday evening, with 20 mem
bers present. Group number one
of the class was joint hostess with
Mrs. Stewart.
The meeting opened with a
hymn and scripture reading by
Mrs. Herbert Madison. The open
ing prayer was by Mrs. Charles
Young.
Mrs. Clyde Jennings, class
president, presided over the busi
ness session which featured re
ports from standing committees
and group captains.
The closing prayer was by Mrs.
T. L. Parnell.

were served during a pleasant so

band on Birthday Anniversary
Honoring her husband on his
birthday anniversary, Mrs. §ig
Holcomb entertained at a de
lightful bridge-dinner at their
home on Elk Spur street Friday
evening. Decorations suggestive
of the Valentine season were
used throughout the home. A
beautifully appointed dinner was
served and with the dessert
course a handsomely decorated
birthday cake was sliced and
served with ices.
Bridge was played at three
tables during the evening. Mrs.
Jones Holcomb and Sig Holcomb
won the high score awards in the
play and the traveling prize went
to Mrs. Pauline Masten Pardue.

afternoon. The regular program
was dispensed with and Chinese
checkers were enjoyed during the
afternoon. Mrs. O. P. Dockery
drew the prize at the conclusion
of the play.

Club Meeting: Wednesday
Continuing their study of
American cities, Mrs. J. H. Bee
son presented a word picture of
Atlanta at the regular meeting of
the Wednesday Afternoon Study
Club at the home of Mrs. Marion
Allen on Church street Wednes
day afternoon. Mrs. Beeson told
of interesting places in and
around Atlanta, as "well as his
torical facts concerning this fam
ous Southern city. Mrs. Fletcher
Harris sang Carrie Jacobs Bond's
"Honey Chile." She was accom
panied at the piano by Mrs. Bee
son. Current events of interest
were given by Mrs. Allen.

At Valentine Party
Miss Olenda Norman was host
ess at an enjoyable Valentine
party at the home of her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. F. HI. Norman, on
Gwyn Avenue, Friday evening,
having as guests a number of
school friends. The guests were
invited for supper at 6 o'clock.
The tables were covered with red
and white cloths, decorated with
Valentine symbols. Red hearts
were used as place cards and red
ribbons were suspended from the
chandeliers. Bowls of January
jasmine and pussywillow were
used throughout the home.
Cubical hearts were played dur
ing the evening. Prizes went to
Owen Gwyn for high score and
Anne I pock for low score.
At the close of the games red
and white ices, cookies and candy
were served. Valentine favors
were presented each of the little
guests.
