DOBSON MAN IS TAffiNBYDEATH Norman L. Harkrader Passes Away Saturday Afternoon After Long Illness FUNERAL HELD MONDAY Norman L. Harkrader, 27, died Saturday afternoon at his home in Dobson following a long illness from a kidney ailment and com plications. He was removed to his home from a Statesville hos pital a few days ago after hope for his recovery was abandoned. The deceased was a son of: Lacey L. Harkrader and a grand-1 son of Mrs. S. K. Harkrader, ofj Dobson, and a member of thej Dobson Methodist church. Before his retirement because! of ill health he was recreational director of the Dobson CCC | camp. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. j Minnie Coalson Harkrader, a daughter, Norma Ann, his father, three sisters, Mrs. Fletcher Har-, ris, of Elkin, and Misses Margaret and Helen Harkrader, of Dobson, and three brothers, W. T. Hark rader, of Mt. Airy; Lakey Hark-1 rader, of Columbia, S. C., and F. W. Harkrader, of Roanoke, Va. Funeral services were held j Monday afternoon from the Dob- j son Methodist church. i PLANS MADE FOR PICNIC Ministers of Statesville Dis trict to Gather at Local Hospital IS AN ANNUAL EVENT Plans have been perfected for the annual all-day picnic of the ministers of the Statesville dis-1 trict of the Western North Caro lina Methodist conference which 1 will be held on the grounds at Hugh Chatham Memorial hospi-i tal here today. The affair, which has been held annually here for the past several years, is attended by all ministers of the district and their families. The district embraces the coun m ties of Alleghany, Ashe, Wilkes, * Iredell and Catawba and a part of Surry. . The meeting will convene at 10:30 o'clock and a picnic dinner will be served at noon. The Ministers' Wives associa tion, of which Mrs. W. G. Grigg is chairman and Mis. G. W. Vick secretary, will hold their regular annual meeting after lunch. Young Man Passes Suddenly Friday Thomas A. Steelman, 28, diMi at the home of his mother, Mrs. Thomas Steelman, on Yadkin ville, route 2, at 2:15 o'clock Fri day afternoon, after being strick en with a heart attack. Mr. Steelman, who had been living in Winston-Salem, and who was employed by the Chat ham Manufacturing company, had been in ill health recently but was able to be up a part of the time. He was in Yadkinville Friday at noon and stricken here. He was carried to the home of his mother, where he died a short while later. He was the son of the late Thomas Steelman and Ollie Hoots Steelman. He at tended Yadkinville high school and was graduated from Oak Ridge Military Academy with the class of 1933. Survivors include the mother, Mrs. Thomas Steelman; four sis ters, Mrs. W. E. McNeal, Win ston-Salem, Mrs. DeWitt Sparks, Boonville, and Misses Josephine and Arline Steelman of the home place, and three brothers, George Leak Steelman, Winston-Salem, and Bickett and Bufort Steelman of the home place. The funeral was held at Enon Baptist church at 10 o'clock Sun day morning. Burial was in the church graveyard. Pallbearers were Fred Dlnkins, Clay Swaim, Hadley Badgett, Haden Adams, Yance Hall and Jack Whitener. Unmarried Children "Have you any children, Mr. Smith?" "Yes —three."
