Mr. and Mrs. BUI Kiker and children, of Natural Bridge, Va., spent the week-end here with the latter's parents, Mr. and Mrs. I. Y. Jester. Y. Jester. Mr. and Mrs. Dumont Elskridge and daughter, Sarah, of Hills boro, spent Sunday here in the home of Mrs. Mabel Finney. The latter returned here with them after spending the past few weeks in their home. Mr. and Mrs. Clint Eskridge, of Greensboro, visited in the home of Mrs. T. J. Eskridge Sunday. The State Mission Week of Prayer will be observed Thursday night at the Baptist church. The Y. W. A. girls will be in charge of the program. All members of both missionary circles and out siders are urged to attend. Mr. and Mrs. R. M. Osborne had as their guests Friday Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Owens and Mrs. Meedie Sexton, of Independ ence, Va., and Mr. Icke Edwards, of West Virginia. Mrs. Max Anthony and Miss Lorene Osborne spent Tuesday night in Winston-Salem. Mr. and ,Mrs. Bill Mann spent the week-end in Asheboro with friends. Mr. and Mrs. Tat Davis and children, Johnny and Abbie Car olyn, visited in the home of the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. R. Davis, in Yadkinville Sun day afternoon. Mesdames Rob y Casstevens, Marvin Holcomb, D. O. Reece, Raymond Connell and Miss Ber tha Adams attended the W. M. U. executive meeting at Yadkinville Sunday afternoon. Miss Carrie Taylor, a former resident here, left this week for Durham where she has accepted a position at Duke hospital. She graduated from Rex hospital, Ra leigh, this spring. Mr. Stanford Brown, of Boone, visited here Saturday night. Miss Beatrice Burcham spent the week-end in Mount Airy with friends. Mrs. J. G. Chipman and chil dren, Edwin and Sarah Lou, of North Wilkesboro, were the Thursday guests of Mrs. John Arnold. Mr. and Mrs. O. S. Wagoner and sons, Leo and Allen, of Brooks Cross Roads, were vis itors here Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. A. D. Stout, of Cycle, were visitors here Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Myers spent Sunday afternoon in Winston- Salem. Mr. Wendel Stanley spent last week with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Stanley, of near Mount Airy. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Hampton and daughter, Sarah, spent the latter part of last week with rel atives near Dobson. Mrs. Mamie Apperson returned to her home Saturday after un dergoing an operation at Hugh Chatham Memorial hospital re cently. Her condition is much improved at this writing. Miss Donna Bassett,. of Los Angeles, Calif., is spending an in definite time here in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Pardue. Alda Grayson Y. W. A. Meets Tuesday Evening The Alda Grayson Y. W. A. of the Baptist church met Tuesday evening at the church from 6:30 to 7:30 for their regular session. Miss Evelyn Arnold was in charge of the program, "Thy Chosen People," and was assisted by all members. Miss Virginia Lineberry was in charge of the devotionals. The songs, "Dwell-1 ing in Beulah Land" and "Faith: Is the Victory," were sung. A short business period was 1 held with the following members present: Misses Virginia and Cornelia Lineberry, Evelyn Ar nold, Bertha Adams and Mrs. Dewey Helton. , Mrs. Tat Davis Entertains Bridge Club Mrs. Tat Davis entertained her bridge club and several other friends 6f Elkin and Jonesville at her home on Cherry street Fri day evening. Three tables were made up for bridge in a setting of early fall flowers. Mrs. Claude Farrell, of Elkin, won high score award in the progression; Mrs. Jack Brown won the consolation, and Mrs. Clyde Hall, the honor prize. Mrs. William Mann, bride of the late summer, was presented a gift. A salad course was served. Special guests were Mrs. Claude Farrell, Mrs. W. A. McHwee and Mrs. Alex Biggs, of Elkin; Mrs. William Mann and Mrs. Jack Brown, of Jonesville. | RONDA Mrs. Sidney Carter left Wed nesday of last week for a ten-day visit with her sister, Mrs. J. R. Hackman, and Mr. Hackman, of Washington, D. C. Mrs. J. B. Bell spent Thursday and Thursday night of last week with her mother, Mrs. R. E. Dar nell, at Benham. Prof, and Mrs. E. R. Spruill were the dinner guests of Mrs. Spruill's mother, Mrs. J. H. Carri gan, at Wilkesboro Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. M. R. Bailey, of Elkin, visited Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Bell Sunday afternoon. Miss Jennie Harris spent the week-end with her father, Mr. Ed Harris, and Mrs. * Harris, at Wilkesboro. Six members of Ronda school faculty and eighteen members of the senior class attended Senior Day at Chapel Hill Saturday. Mrs. Roy Jenkins and little daughter, "Tommy," of Elkin, spent Saturday and Saturday night visiting Mrs. Jenkins' par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Ollie Waddell, and other relatives here. Mr. and Mrs. Vance Mcßride, of Wilkesboro, visited in the home of Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Martin Sunday. Mrs. O. P. Wall and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Sale went to Raleigh Sunday to visit their sister, Miss Myra Sale, who is a patient in a hospital there. Miss Sale under went a major operation last Fri day. Her condition is considered favorable. Mrs. D. C. Mathis left Monday for a few days visit with her son, Mr. Harvey Mathis, and family. Mr. and Mrs. Colon Pardue, of Clingman, visited Mrs. Pardue's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dewitt Burchette, Sunday. A number of Ronda people at tended the Green-Gray reunion at Pleasant Grove Baptist church Sunday. Mr. W. E. Sale and Mr. Fred Sale went to Raleigh Monday to visit Miss Myra Sale. BENHAM The Yarboro reunion will be held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Yarboro at the old Hoots place near Benham church, the first Sunday in October. Every body is invited to attend and bring a well filled basket. Mr. and Mrs. Claude Settle, of New Orleans, La., are spending several days visiting relatives here. Friends of Mrs. Robert Swaim will regret to leam that she is seriously ill in the Hugh Chat ham Memorial hospital. Her many friends wish for her a speedy recovery. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Norman and children, Charles and Nancy, of North Wilkesboro, were the Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Hanks. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Adkins, of High Point, were the Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Tyra Ad kins. HAYES FAMILY HOLDS REUNION HERE SUNDAY Members of the family of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Hayes met in annual reunion Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Hayes in North Elkin. Those present for the reunion were the nine children of the late Mr. and Mrs. Hayes, 43 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, and a num ber of friends and relatives of the family. Rev. J. B. Rollins and G. W. Walters spoke briefly to the gath ering. Special music was rendered during the all-day program by the Elkin Valley Quartette, composed of J. B. Mitchell. A. C. Cockerham, Miss Helen Hayes and Bob Collins, with the accompaniments by Miss j Marguerite Cockerham.
