®SOC.i ETY. Legion Auxiliary to Meet Monday Evening The Woman's Auxiliary of the George Gray Post of the Ameri can Legion will meet Monday ev ening at 7:46 at the home of Mrs. H. F. Laffoon, on Church street. All members are cordially in vited to attend. Bauguess-Byers Announcement is made today of the marriage of Miss Marylee Bauguess to Ivan Byers. The marriage was solemnized in a quiet ceremony at Dobson on Oc tober 21. Mrs. Byers is the daughter oi Mr. and Mrs. T. V. Bauguess, of State Road. Following a brief wedding trip they are residing at State Road. Mrs. Brown Is Hostess to Presbyterian Circle ' Mrs. Ted Brown was hostess to the circle of the Woman's Mis sionary society of the Presby terian church at her home on Church street Monday evening, with 14 members present. Mrs. O. V. Caudill conducted the de votional period and the program was presented by Mrs. W. R. Wellborn, assisted by Mrs. Dan Barbour, Mrs. O. T. Blackburn and Mrs. David Causey. Refreshments were served dur ing a pleasant social hour. Dorcas Class Meets Tuesday Evening The Dorcas class of the Sun day school of the First Baptist church met to the regular busi ness-social meeting Tuesday ev ening at the home of Mrs. Harvey Baker, on Elk Spur street, with 22 members and two visitors present. Mrs. Clyde Carroll conducted the devotionals and Mrs. T. L. Parnell, class president, presided over the business session, which featured routine reports and plans for class activities. During a pleasant social hour a number of games and contests, directed by Mrs. Turner Carter, were enjoyed. Refreshments were served. Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Honor Daughter Mr. and Mrs. Montgomery Ar nold honored their daughter, Minnie Ruth, on her 17th birth day anniversary, at their home in Hamptonville, Tuesday night. Games were enjoyed through out the evening. The guests were ushered into the dining room, where the color scheme of pink and white was carried out effec tively. There Miss Arnold opened the many lovely gifts that her friends presented her. Cake, pickles and lemonade were served to the following: Miss Arnold, the honoree; Misses Ger ry Weaver, Erlene Matthews, Dorcas and Grace Cranfill, Cath erine Hinson, Caroline Bell. Masquerade Party Is Held At Nttraea* Home Thursday Members of the nursing staff of the Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital were hostesses at a de lightful Hallowe'en masquerade party at the nurses' home on Thursday evening. Approximately 50 guests enjoyed the affair. The entire lower floor of the home was decorated with au tumn leaves, Jack o' Lanterns, shocks of corn and a colorful ar ray of autumn flowers. The guests were masked and in cos tume. Miss Mary Fletcher won the costume award for ladies, and the prize for the men's costume went to Julius Speas. Miss Fletcher was presented toilet wa ter . and Mr. Speas was given a bill fold. Various games, suggestive of the season, were enjoyed, and novelty prizes were awarded. The climax of the entertainment was the fortune telling booth, where a "real" fortune teller held sway. Punch, sandwiches, doughnuts, apples, pop com and peanuts were served btftTßj& style during the evening. Elkin Valley Y. W. A Celebrates Third Anniversary Celebrating the third anniver sary of the organization of the Carrie Woodruff circle of the Y. W. A. of the Elkin Valley Baptist church, members of the auxiliary entertained their mothers and Sunday school teachers at a so cial at the church on Monday ev ening. Miss Grace Lawrence, president of the association, presided over the meeting and welcomed the visitors. The devotional period was in charge of Mrs. E. G. Jor dan. A musical reading, "Some body's Mother," was given by Miss Helen Hayes, with Miss Mildred Lawrence playing the pi ano accompaniment. Mrs. H. D. (Carrie) Woodruff, gave a brief talk, which was followed by the history of the organization by Miss Frances Martin. George Walters, superintendent of the Sunday school, Mrs. Mary Dar nell, first Y. W. A. counsellor, and Mrs. Roy Collins, present leader, Mrs. Eli Jordan, Mrs. Robert Transou and Jim Mitchell all contributed to the program with brief summaries of the work of the church and its affi liated organizations. A vocal trio, composed of Misses Helen Hayes and Frances and Jean Martin, gave special music. A social hour followed. The rooms were decorated in green and white, the auxiliary colors. The birthday cake, bearing three candles, was the central decora tion of the refreshment table. Mrs. Woodruff lighted the can dles on the cake and gave the in vocation. Punch, cake and sand wiches were served the 40 guests attending. Methodist Circle Meetings Well Attended The circles of the Woman's So ciety of Christian Service of the Methodist church met Monday afternoon in the following homes: Circle number one met with THE ELKIN TRIBUNE, ELKIN, NOHTH CAROLINA Mrs. J. Q. Abernethy, with 21 members present. One new mem ber, Mrs. A. C. Oibbs, was enroll ed. Mrs. Abernethy, circle chair man, presided over the business session and Mrs. F. W. Graham conducted the devotlonals. The Bible study was taught by Mrs. Joe Bivins, assisted by Mrs. Q. T. Roth and Mrs. W. A. Finney. Circle number two met with Mrs. E. 8. Spainhour on West Main street, with Mrs. E. W. Mc- Daniel associate hostess, with 23 members present. Four new mem bers, Mrs. Owen Huff, Mrs. Mer cer Tyson, Mrs. Stauber Flynt and Mrs. A. R. SWAN CREEK Preaching services were held at Swan Creek Baptist church Sat urday night. A large number was there for Sunday school Sun day. Preaching services were also held Sunday at the regular hour. Mr. Herman Adams spent Sat urday night with Mr. Harry Hag er at Jonesville. Miss Omah Mathis, of Elkin, spent Sunday in the home of her parents, and Mrs. Sam Mathis. "Mrs. Eva Macey, of Jonesville, spent Sunday in the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Parks Adams. Mrs. Cleveland Armstrong is getting along fine in the Davis hospital at Statesville where she underwent an operation. Mr. and Mrs. Oarvey Simmons and the former's sister, Miss Louise Simmons, of Elkin, spent Sunday with Mrs. Simmons' par ents, Mr. and Mrs. James Mathis. Mrs. W. A. Holleman is im proving nicely frpm a long ill ness, her many friends are glad to know. Mr. and Mrs. Coy Calloway spent Saturday in Winston-Sa lem visiting Mr. Calloway's sister.
