Aldridge and Mrs. Jane Smith, at Home Hotel. Misses Peggy Royall and Eleanor Hayes spent the week end in North Wilkesboro, the guests of Miss Nell Rousseau. Joe Gwyn Bivins, a student at Davidson College,. spent Sunday here with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Bivins, on Gwyn avenue. Rev. E. Lester Poe, of Inde pendence, Va., is spending this week in Elkin and Ronda, visiting friends. Mrs. Ralph Reich was called to North Wilkesboro Tuesday on account of the death of her aunt, Miss Flossie Hendren. Mrs. . Wallace Reynolds left Wednesday for a visit of two weeks with relatives in Lexing ton, Ky. Mrs. F. P. Kiser, of High Point, was the guest the latter part of last week of Mrs. C. O. Garland, at her home on Gwyn avenue. Miss Dorothy Colhard spent the, week-end in North Wilkes boro, the guest of Miss Lorraine Reeves. Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Kreeger, of Winston-Salem, were the Sunday guests of Mrs. Fannie Salmons and Mrs. T. W. Church, at their home on Gwyn avenue. Mrs. T. G. Trivette, of Win ston-Salem, was the guest over the week-end of her mother, Mrs. R. G. at her home on West Main street. Brady Snow, of Bluefield, W. Va., was the guest the early part of the week of Mr. and Mrs. H. G. York, the latter his sister, at their home on Church street. Harold Sale, who has been ill for some time, suffering from a back injury, left Wednesday for Duke hospital, Durham, for a series of treatments./ Mrs. R. Q. Smith returned Sun day from Junction City, Art:., where she was called two weeks ago on account of the serious ill ness of her father, S. L. Muse. Poindexter and son, Rev. William Poindexter, of Win ston-Salem, were the Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Biv ins and Mr. and Mrs. Van Poin dexter. Mrs. Fred McNeely and daugh ter, Betty, her mother, Mrs. R. G. Franklin, and brother, Richard Franklin, left Tuesday for Ozona, Fla., where they will spend the winter. George C. Poplin, Jr., of Ron da, who has been making his home here for several months, enlisted last week in the U. S. Air Corps, and is now stationed at McDell Field, Tampa, Fla. Mr. and Mrs. M. A. Rose and daughters and son, Leona, Kath leen and Wilson, and Elbert Slawter spent the week-end in Danville, Va., the guests of Mr. and Mrs. M. W. Turner. They also visited in Yanceyville. Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Kirkman and daughters and Mr. and Mrs. Austin Laster, of High Point, were the Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. C. I. Boger, on West Main street. Mrs. Kirkman is a sister of Mrs. Boger. Joe Salmons, young son of Dr. and Mrs. H. C. Salmons, suffered a broken arm in a fall while play ing near his home on Monday. Both bones in the right forearm were broken in the fall. He. is recovering nicely. Mrs. E. C. Grier spent the week-end in Greensboro, the guest of Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Voss, the latter her daughter. She was accompanied by Mrs. Rich Chat ham and daughter, Margaret, who visited Mr. and Mrs. C. G. I Armfield. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Sale had as their guests Sunday, Mrs. Sale's mother and sister, Mrs. J. C. Mor rison and Miss Rachel Morrison, of Statesville, Mrs. A. S. McKay and Miss Rachel McKay of Mooresville and Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Fox of Troutman. Dr. I. S. Gambill was called to /Chapel Hill on Monday on ac count of the illness of his son, Sam Gambill, a student at the University. Mr. Gambill was taken to Watts hospital, Dur ham, for treatment, and his con dition is improved. Dr. Gambill returned Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Pete Lea, of Lex ington, spent the week-end here with Mrs. Lea's parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Reece, on Bridge street. Mr. and Mrs. Reece also had as their guests over the week-end their Son, Bill Reece, a student at Wake Forest College. Bill Gambill, a student at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hil, spent the week-end here with his parents, Dr. and Mrs. I. S. Gambill. Dr. and Mrs. Gambill also had as their guests over the week-end, Mr. and Mrs. Charles McNeill, of North Wilkes boro. Rev. and Mrs. A. C. Gibbs moved the latter part of last week to the home on Bridge street recently vacated by Mr. and Mrs. Jack Carter. Their daughters, Miss Katherine Gibbs, a student at Greensboro College, Greensboro, and Miss Isabel Gibbs, a student at Mitchell Col lege, Statesville, were her with them for the week-end. Mrs. Z. V. Strader, of Greens . boro, spent last week here the guest of Mr. and Mrs. J. Mark McAdams, the latter her daugh ter, at their home on Church street. On Wednesday Mrs. Stra der and Mr. McAdams attended the wedding of Miss Martha Ann Glenn and William Butler at the Centenary Methodist church in Winston-Salem. The bridegroom is a great-nephew of Mrs. Stra der. Charles R. Dunagan, of Ra leigh, was here Wednesday, visit ing his grandparents, Dr. and Mrs. M. A. Royall, on Church street, and other relatives and friends. Mr. Dunnagan, who is a lieutenant in the IT. 8. Army Re serves, has been called to active duty for one year and will leave on Monday of next week for Port Jackson, S. C., where he will be stationed. Dr. Hugh Parks, who has been ill for sometime and who last week returned from a Charlotte hospital where he underwent a special series of treatment and has been at his room at Hotel Elk in since that time was removed late Wednesday to Hugh Chat ham Memorial hospital. His con dition is regarded as extremely serious, his many friends will re gret to know.
