Mr. and Mrs. Sheffie Graham announce the birth of a son at Hugh Chatham Memiorial Hos pital, December 17, 1940. Wilmoth Swaim left last week rfor Winston-Salem, where he has accepted a position with the Unique Furniture company. Dr. and Mrs. Fraser Lapsley, of Badin, were the overnight guests Tuesday of the latter's mother, Mrs. J. L. Hall, on West Main street. Miss Florence Harris left Sun day for Washington, D. C., to spend the Christmas holidays with Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Mathis, the latter her sister. Bill Reece, a student at Wake Forest College, is spending the holidays here with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Reece, on Bridge street. Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Bivins, of Millers Creek, were the Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Wilmoth Swaim, at their home in Jones ,ville. k... Mr. and Mrs. Frank Atkinson and family, of Charlotte, spent the week-end here the guests of Mrs. J. S. Atkinson, on West Main street. Miss§* Norma and Kate Caw thon are expected to arrive the latter part of the week from Washington, D. C., to spend the holidays with Mrs. H. C. Graham and Mrs. Thomas Roth. Miss Catherine Gibbs, a student at Greensboro College, Greens boro, will arrive today to spend the holidays with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Gibbs, on Bridge street. Mrs. T. F. Cooley and son, Tommy, will leave Saturday for Newberry, S. C., to spend the holidays with relatives. Mr. Cool ey will join them on Christmas Eve. Mrs. C. F. James, of Mt. Airy, is expected to arrive Sunday to spend the holidays with Mr. and Mrs. E. C. James, the former her son, at their home on West Main street. C Misses Kaylee Walker, Betsy and Nancy Mosley and Jimmy James, students at Mars Hill Col lege, arrived Tuesday to spend the holidays with their respective families. Sam Gray, Robert Nicks, Billy _ Jones and Bill Graham, students at North Carolina State College, Raleigh, arrived Thursday to spend the Christmas holidays here with their families. Jimmy Harrell and Dick Shu gart, students at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, are expected to arrive Saturday to spend the holidays here with their respective families. Mrs. Minnie Lawrence returned to her home in Mount Airy Sun day, following a visit of several weeks with Mr. and Mrs. T. H. Shugart, the latter her daughter, at their home on Franklin street. Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Meed, of Wheeling, W. Va., are expected to arrive Saturday to spend the hol idays with Mrs. Meed's parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. N. Masten, on Elk Spur street. Mrs. Richard G. Chatham re turned Wednesday from a stay of several weeks with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon C. Pelts, of w-gGalax, at their winter home at M&ni. Fla. / Mrs. r. L. Burch had as her wests Sunday at her home on | Bridge street, Mr. and Mrs. Mar vin Burch and Mr. and Mrs. George Hill, of Kingsport, Tenn., and James Burch, of Hickory. Misses Virginia and Edwina Lawrence, Geraldine Couch, Mary Elizabeth Foster and Elizabeth McNeill, students at Meredith - .College, Raleigh, arrived Wednes day to spend the holidays here their respective families. JR. Cleve Lewellyn of Dobson Mind Elkin, president of The Bank of Elkin, who has been seriously ill for the past several months in Martin Memorial hospital in Mt. P Airy, Is much Improved, his many friends throughout the county will be glad to know. He Is expected to return to work shortly after the first of the year Bill Wellborn, a student at Tu larin university Medical School, New Orleans, is expected to ar rive Sunday to spend the Christ mas holidays with his parents, Dr. and Mrs. W. R. Wellborn, on Bridge street. Mr. and Mrs. L. O. Meed will leave Sunday for Parkersburg, W. Va., to spend the Christmas holi days with relatives. They will be joined there by their daughters, Misses Margie and Regina Meed, who will also visit there during the holidays. Sam and Bill Gambill, Edwin Royall, Earl Pardue, Charles Neaves and Hayden Ratledge, students at the University of North Carolina, will arrive Sat urday to spend the Christmas holidays here with their respec tive families. Joe Gwyn Bivins, Dick Graham and Dick Smith, students at Davidson College, arrived Wednes day to spend the Christmas holi days here with their respective parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Bivins, Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Graham and Mr. and Mrs. R. G. Smith. Miss Helen Finney, of this city, ,a student at Greensboro College, will arrive Friday of this week to spend the Christmas holidays with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Finney. She also plans to visit Miss Betty McNeely at Ozona, Fla„ during the holidays. Miss Fannie Daniel of Wilson spent the week-end here with Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Parker, the lat ter her sister, at their home in Westover Park. She was accom panied home by her little niece, Betty Ann Parker, who is spend ing this week with her grandmoth er, Mrs. John C. Daniel. Mrs. J. H. Beeson, director of the adult choir of the First Bap tist church, and Rev. Herman F. Duncan, pastor of the Methodist church, will go to Yadkinville this evening, where they will address the Yadkinville Woman's Club. Mrs. Beeson will talk on Christ mas carols, and Rev. Mr. Duncan will address the group on "Peace." Miss Louise Laffoon, a student at Mitchell College, Statesville, will arrive today to spend the holi days with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. F. Laffoon. She visited Miss Nancy Alexander in Win ston-Salem en route home. Other students at Mitchell, Misses Mar garet and Laura Evelyn Boger, Isabel Gibbs and Margaret Settle, arrived Wednesday to spend Christmas- with their families. > Among the students at Mere dith College, Raleigh, who will participate in the Little Theatre Christmas production, The Bird's Christmas Carol, will be Miss Mary Elizabeth Foster, who will play the role of Mrs. Ruggles; Miss Elizabeth McNeill, who is a member of the staging commit tee, and_ Miss Geraldine Couch, who is co-chairman of the prop erties committee. Mrs. Fannie Salmons, Mrs. T. W. Church and Hugh Salmons left Tuesday for Winston-Salem to attend the wedding of Miss Carolyn Salmons and Joseph Vaughn, which was solemnized in a formal ceremony at the First Baptist church on Wednesday af ternoon. The bride is the grand daughter of Mrs. Salmons and the sister of Mr. Salmons, and is the only daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. Leßoy Salmons. Just Suits the Job!
