SOCIETY Officera Elected for Baptist W. M. U. at Meeting Moaday The general meeting of the cir cles of the W. M. U. of the First Baptist church was held at the church Monday afternoon. The program was presented by the Rmm» Leechman circle, under the direction of Miss Emma Cooke. Mrs. Silas Nichols con ducted the devotionals. During the business session of ficers were elected as follows to serve through the coming year: president, Mrs. F. M. Norman; vice-president, Mrs. H. G. Harris; social chairman, Mrs. S. O. Ma guire; secretary, Mi s s Emma Cooke; treasurer, Mrs. Silas Nichols; mission study chairman, Mrs. Stephen Morrisett; personal service, Mrs. I. C. Yates; flower committee chairman, Mrs. T. G. Harris; pianist, Mrs. Parks Hampton. Circle and auxiliary leaders elected were: Mrs. Owen Reece, Mrs. W. T. Carter, Mrs. Jack Freeman, Miss Effie Crater, Mrs. Charles Young, Mrs. W. W. Wea therman, Mrs. Jake Jones, Miss Lucy Gray. Mrs. T. W. Church, Mrs. Johnny Sears, Mrs. H. G. York, Mrs. GlenA Lewis, Mrs. Freer Adams, Mrs. W. O. Hooper and Mrs. Carl Myers. A great lover of nature, he has, since his retirement, devoted his time to flower and vegetable gar dening. Since early manhood he had been a member of the Elkin Methodist church. Funeral services were held at the home Monday morning at 11 o'clock. The rites were in charge of Rev. Herman F. Duncan, pas tor of the deceased, Rev. L. B. Abernethy, Rev. G. W. Edgerton, of Yadkinville, and Prof. Z. H. Dixon, of this city. During the service Prof. Dixon read William Cullen Bryant's "To a Water fowl," which was the favorite poem of the deceased. Interment was in the family plot in Hollywood cemetery, un der a blanket of flowers that covered the entire plot. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Rmma Myers Bodenheimer; two daughters, Mrs. Mae Bodenheim er Greenwood of High Point, and Mrs. Jones Holcomb of this city; two granddaughters, Mrs. Sam Neaves of this city, and Miss Constance Greenwood, who is in school at San Antonio, Texas; a little great-granddaughter, Nan cy Neaves; one half-brother, Frank Bodenheimer, of Kansas THE ELKIN TRIBUNE, ELKIN, NORTH CAROLINA Folks Should Tell Firemen Where Fire Is i Ted Brown, chief of the Elkln fire department, said Tuesday that it is highly im portant for people who call In to report fires to five the tele phone operator the address as well as the name of the per son's home which is on fire. Since the Chatham Manu facturing Company has moved its finishing plant here, CSilef Brown stated, so many new people are living here that it is impossible for the firemen to know where all live, and if the address is not riven in every case, the fire department may not be able to reach the scene quickly. It was also pointed out that citizens who move from one neighborhood to another should tell some member of the department of their move so that in case of fire the de partment will go to the right address. An instance of the firemen having to hunt the fire was reported here a week or so ago, no one knowing where the family in need lived. City, and a step-sister, Mrs. T. L. Green, of Statesville. Martin, who ha*B been living in East Virginia near Amelia Courthouse for the past few years reutraed here last Friday to make, her home. Mr. Martin will return a little later. Before moving to East Virginia they made their hon)e here for several years. Mr. Martin farmed and worked at the carpenter's trade. I Miss Sadie Felming visited Mrs. E. E. Hood at Summerfield. | Mrs. Posie Lyon visited her hus band at Fredericksburg, Virginia recently. Mr. Lyon is employed by Bowers Construction Company in building a bridge across the Rapahannock River, j Rev. Raymond E. Connell made > a business trip to Winston-Salem Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Coram and Allen Jessup spent the week-end in Boone. Miss Ruby Winkler had as her guests last Saturday her brother and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Wink ler of Boone. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Mathis of Boonville and Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Cockerham of Concord were the Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Graham Stinson. Mr. and Mrs. Grover Williams, of Boonville, Misses Edith, Lois and Vermeil Jester, Miss Sallie Williams, Mr. and Mrs. Worth ROckett and Tet Jester, of Union Cross, were the Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. John Williams. The Teachers' Club Meets At Boonville The Boonville Teachers' Club met at the home of Mrs. J. M. Speas Monday night. Practically all lady teachers in the Boonville school were present. Mrs. Watt Deal was club hostess for the night. Refreshments were served to the following: Mesdames Robert Gai ther, Ralph Coram, Allen Jessup, Misses Ruby Winkler, Ruby Hin shaw, Sadie Fleming, Frances Thomas, Amanda Hallman, Bertha Hine, Martha Speas. Mrs. Anita Reece, and Mrs. Albert Martin, and Miss Katherine Jones. Boonville W. M. S. Meets The Woman's Missionary So ciety of the Boonville Baptist church met in a special meeting at the home of Mrs. Luther Jones Tuesday night. A large number were present and an interesting program was presented. Methodist Women Meet With Mrs. Fred Key The Young Women's group of the Boonville Methodist Mission ary Society met Tuesday night at the home of Mrs. Fred Key for the December meeting. FLAT ROCK The W. M. U. of Flat Rock Baptist church met Saturday af ternoon at the hotae of Mrs. Montgomery Arnold, with 15 members and one visitor present. Seventeen members of the Sun beam band were also present. The .meeting opened with the hymn, "Joy to The World," with the devotional period by Mrs. Ellen Johnson. The program topic, "Christmas in the East" was pre sented by Mrs. W. N. Ireland, as sisted by Mesdames Claude Wil liam, Joe Paris and Santford Steel man. Special music was ren dered by Miss Gerry Weaver. Following the discussion of the program the Sunbeams gave a Christmas playlet, directed by Mrs. Joe Paris. During a brief business session the president, Mrs. Claude Wil liams, presided. Refreshments were served dur ing a pleasant social hour and Christmas gifts were exchanged between members. OFFICIALS OF BOY SCOUT COURT NAMED J. L. Lillard, of this city, was elected district president of the I Boy Scout Court of Honor at a! meeting of the council last week. D. G. Smith was elected as vice president, and J. Mark McAdams, by virtue of his office as field commissioner, Is secretary of the group. The district includes El j kin and the surrounding territory and Is a part of the Winston | Salem council. I The new council Is composed of j Rev. Herman F. Duncan, E. E. Hayes, Dr. C. E. Nicks, J. TO HOLD SINGING AT MACEDONIA CHURCH ~ The regular fifth Sunday sing ing will be held at Macedonia Baptist church, near Ronda, on December 29. This figure was in error, and should have been $24.75 up, as no Elgin or Bulova watches are priced below that figure. The Tribune regrets the error. LIBRARY HERE TO BE CLOSED ON 25 AND 26 The Elkin Public library will be closed on December 25 and 26 in observance of Christmas, ac cording to Miss Virginia Price! librarian. A donation of a $l5O set of the Encyclopedia Americana has just been received by the library, a gift of the Kiwanis club.
