Brendle of Boonville, Mrs. John W. Williamson of Yadkinville and Mrs. Donnie G. Harris of this city, at tire Gilvin Roth Y.M.C.A. Miss Guyer's marriage to Junius Emery Brendle is planned for June. The receiving room was beau tifully decorated carrying out the bridal colors of pink and white which were repeated in the re freshment course. Spring flowers were used throughout with a min iature wedding scene in front of the mantle. Behind the wedding scene there was an arrangement of all white Spring flowers and lighted tapers flanked with mag nolia leaves. The bride - elect’s place was marked with a corsage of varie gated carnations. Other places were designated with handmade miniature baskets filled with thrift. Four tables of bridge and two tables of rummy were in play during the evening. High score award in bridge went to Miss Fan nie Sue Harris and consolation to Mrs. Savannah Sheppard. Mrs. James Transou was high scorer in rummy and Mrs. Bill Cook, low scorer. Miss Guyer was presented a gift of crystal in her chosen wedding pattern by the hostesses. Bridal cake, nuts and coffee were served to the honoree, Miss Willie Guyer, Mrs. Savannah Sheppard, Mrs. Herman Guyer, Miss Fannie Sue Harris, Miss Lu cille Weatherman, Miss Zeeta Beeson, Miss Agnes Gray, Miss Lucy Gray. Mrs. McDaniel Is DAR Hostess Mrs. E. W. McDaniel was hos tess to the Jonathan Hunt Chap ter of the D. A. R. at a luncheon session at her home, Thursday. Mrs. James A. Booher presided over the meeting. The group studied the resolutions passed at the state conference held in Ashe ville, recently, and discussed the part the local chapter takes in the state and national program. The local chapter also plans to take part in the program for the financing of a large wing which is being built on Constitution Hall in Washington, D. COUSINS Miss Mary Jane Tharpe, daugh ter of John Koontz Tharpe of Ronda, and the late Mrs. Tharpe, became the bride of Major Thomas Cousins of Morganton, son of Mrs. M. T. Cousins of Durham and the late Mr. Cousins, in a pretty cere mony solemnized at the home of the bride, at 5:30 o'clock Friday afternoon. Rev. Rufus R. Crater, officiated, using the ring ritual of the Bap tist Church. Only members of the immediate families witnessed the ceremony. A prelude of wedding music was presented by Mrs. Harvey Church, pianist. The bride and bridegroom, en tered together unattended, to speak their vows before an im provised altar of greenery and white gladioli. The nuptial setting was softly lighted by tapers in seven branched candelabra. The bride wore a two piece suit of magnolia white gabardine with matching hat and navy accessor ies. She carried an orchid shower ed with satin streamers and val ley lilies. Immediately following the cere mony, a reception was held at the home for members of the families. The bride’s table was overlaid with an imported lace cloth and centered with a three tiered wedding cake topped with a miniature bridal couple. Mrs. Cousins, a graduate of Ap palachian State Teachers College, Boone, is now director of Woman's Athletics at Morganton High School. Mr. Cousins is a graduate of Julliard School of Music, New York. He was a member of the National Symphony Orchestra, Washington, D. C„ prior to ac cepting his present position of Director of Music in Morganton. Miss Lucy Gray, president, pre sided and Miss Ola Crowder offer ed the invocation. Mr. Freeman, who has recently returned from Japan where he was a member of the defense counsel in the war crimes trials for the United States, told the group, “It is up to us to under i stand the people of other coun tries, and it is up to us to get them to understand us.” Mr. Freeman was introduced by Mrs. Luther Baker, program chair man. % During the business session, the group voted to contribute $25. to Miss iheck, Mr. * Couch, Are Wed Miss Vallie Mozelle Cheek of Jonesville, became the bride of Colin Couch of this city on Satur day, March 12, at the home of Rev. E. W. McMurray of Yadkin vilie. For her wedding, the bride chose a suit of navy blue with which she used black accessories. Her cor sage was of white carnations. Mrs. Couch is the daughter of Mrs. T. C. Cheek of Jonesville, avid the late Mr. Cheek. Mr. Couch is the son of Mrs. Ella Couch and the late J. B. Coudh. At present he holds a posi tion at the Elkin Furniture Com pany. The couple are making their home in Fleasant Hill. the North Elkin School lunch room. Mrs. Joe Karris was the guest of Mrs. E. A. Harris at the meet ing. April Bride-bled Is Feted Thursday Honoring Miss Dorothy Bee Parks, bride-elect of Afiril, Miss Maude Greenwood entertained at a dinner bridge at her apartment on North Bridge Street, Thurs day evening. Covers were laid for 12 guests. Miss Parks is to wed Charles Colhard, at 5 o’clock Saturday afternoon. April 9, at the First Methodist Church. The high score award in bridge went to Mrs. E. W. McDaniel and the runner-up to Mrs. E. C. Grier. Miss Parks’ place was designat ed with a tiny basket of sachets and she was presented with a gift of linen.
