JONESVILLE By Mrs. Leslie Batte Phone 98-R Paul Fisher, student at the T?ni vefsity of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, and his little daughter, June Carol, were visitors of relatives here during Easter. June Hicks, Mac Harris, Benny Triplett, Charles and Wesley Hol comb, and Jess Hutcheson spent the week-end on a camping and fishing trip at “Buzzard Rock.” Miss Mary Ann Hagwood had as her guest during Easter, Miss Louise Campbell of Lynchburg, Va. Mr. and Mrs. Odell Mayberry of Pulaski, Va., spent Easter with Mr. and Mrs. Verge Holcornb. Mr. and Mrs. J. -T. Blackwood spent the week-end in Charlotte visiting their daughter, Rama. ' Miss Pauline Gilliam was the Week-end guest of Mr. and Mrs. Rufus Gilliafn in Boyds, Md. Vernon Medley and Miss Louise Vestal spent Sunday in Greens boro with relatives and friends. Mrs. C. J. Holcomb spent Sun day and Monday in Boonvil'.e where she visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. F. Sprouse. Mrs. Hol comb was given a dinner in honor of her birthday while there. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Sale and children, Pamellia and Hal, Jr., of Lexington, S. C., were guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Boles during the week-end. Holds Meeting The W.S.C.S. of the Jonesville dethodist Church met for the tpril meeting at the home of Mrs. Carl York with Mrs. C. R. Rary is associate hostess. The program tpened with the singing of “Lead Cindly Light.” The program subject, “Light in ^atin America” was led by Mrs. 3hillip Wilkins. She was assisted n the discussion by Mrs. Marvin 3oggs, Mrs. Johnny Canipe, and iJiss Mary Mathis. Mrs. L. A. iughes gave a report on the an mal conference held in High Point. Officers for the coming year were elected as follows: Mrs. Larry Long, president: Mrs. L. A. Hughes, vice-president; Revival Is Now In Progress At Nazarene Church REV. CLARE ELKINS 0 Rev. Clare Elkins of Burlington, pastor of the First Church of the Nazarene in Burlington is con ducting a revival meeting which is now in progress at the Church of the Nazarene. The revival be gan April 17 and will continue through May 1. The service begins at 7:30 o’clock each evening. Special sing ing and music will be rendered by Prof. Grady Thomas, church choir director, the Rushing fam ily, and the church, quartet. Rev. Elkins has had a wide ex perience with young peoples work and has also taught in one of the prominent Bible schools of the country. The public is cordially invited to attend the revival services. CONCERT DRIVE ENDS SATURDAY No New Memberships Can Be Accepted After Deadline Until Next Year SURRY - YADKIN GROUP The drive for new memberships to the Surry-Yadkin Community Concert Association will close Sat urday evening, according to an announcement made by the presi dent, Mrs. Robert L. Kirkman, Jr., after which no new memberships can be accepted until next season. A representative will be at Hayes and Speas Furniture Company, headquarters for the association, for the remainder of the week to receive new' memberships. Any one desiring to become a member of the association is requested to see the representative there. Admission to the concerts is by membership only. No box-office admissions to any of the concerts will be sold. A canvass has been made in Elkin and the surrounding area for renewals of last season’s mem bers. Last year the association presented such artists as Carolyn Long, lyric sopfano, Zadel Skolov sky, pianist, and the Columbia Concert Trio. The type artists the association will be able to secure will depend on the number of members in the association for 1949-50. Former Elkin Lady’s Daughter Wins Honor Miss Elizabeth Eller, of Mt. Pleasant, Mich., freshman at Mt. Pleasant High School took dis trict honors in’ a Dramatic read ing contest in Midland Senior High School Tuesday afternoon, April 12. Her selection was “The Trial of St. John,” by George Bernard Shaw. Miss Eller is the daughter of Mrs. R. W. Lembke of Mt. Pleas ant, Mich., the former Mrs. Cath erine Harris Eller of this city, and granddaughter of Mrs. E. E. Har ris of this city. Miss Eller will continue to the regional contest which will be held in Alma, Mich. Mrs. Philip Wilkins, secretary; Mrs. Robert Boles, ti&asurer; Mrs. C. G. Mathis, secretary of Spiritual Life; Mrs. 0.»E. At the conclusion of the meet ing refreshments were served to the members present.
