Womans Club Has Christmas Parly Boughs of holly tied with large bows of red ribbon, red tapers and miniature snowmen furn ished a pretty setting for the regular December dinner meeting and Christmas party of the Busi ness and Professional Woman's Club. Thursday evening at the Gilvin Roth YMCA. Mrs. Jones Holcomb was res ponsible for the decorations. Miss Mattie Mae Powell gave the invocation and Mrs. James H. Howard, president, presided over the meeting. During the business session the club received an invi tation from Senior Girl Scout Troop V. which the club sponsors, to attend an investiture service at the Y tonight at 7:30 o'clock. The club also voted to give twenty dollars to the Community Christ ian Charity Fund. Following the dinner, the group adjourned to the parlor where games and caroling were enjoyed under the direction of Miss Idelia Benson and Miss Mamie Dyer. The gift exchange was in charge of Mrs. Santa Ciaus, played by Mrs. Howard. The first cafeteria, which own ed in New York in 1885, had no seats. Phone 672 Jonesville, N. C. Sammy Cockerham Feted Wednesday Mrs. F. B. Cockerham of Stato Road honored her son. Sammy, on his fourteenth birthday anniver sary, Wednesday evening. Games and contests were played with prizes going to Norman Blake, Evelyn Thompson, David Spicer, Eobby Gray Wolfe and Kenneth Layell. After the games, refreshments were served to 24 friends present. Sammy received many nice gifts. Madison in Winston-Salem at 5:30 o’clock, Saturday, December 10. For her wedding the bride chose a teal blue gabardine suit with which she used black and white accessories. Her corsage was of red rosebuds. Mrs. Leonard is a graduate of Ronda High School and now holds a position with her brother in Lexington. Mr. Leonard, a graduate of Reeds High School, attended the University, of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. He is a veteran of World War II having served 21 months with the U. S. Army, nine months of which were spent over seas. He is now employed by the Coble Dairy in Lexington. Upon returning from a wedding trip to Western North Carolina, the couple will be at home in Lex ington. * * * Among those attending the wed ding ceremony were Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Rumple and Nell Rumple of Ronda; Mr. and Mrs. Pharris Caudle of Hickory; Mr. and Mrs. George Herman Leonard of Lex ington and Forest Rumple of El kin. ROBERT PARDEW (PHOTO BY BELL) Miss Virginia Ruth Mathis, daughter of Mrs. Jones Mathis of this city and the late Mr. Mathis, became the brid<“ of Robert Ever ette Pardew, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Pardew of Forest Hill, Md., formerly of Ronda, in a home cere ; mony at high noon, Saturday. The Rev. J. C. Gwaltney, pastor of the Grace Avenue Baptist Church in Kannapolis, heard the vows. A program of wedding music was presented by Mrs. Ted Ed wards, pianist. Prior to the cere mony she played “Tell Me That You Love Me” (Lizst) and during the ceremony "I Love You Truly” 'Bond*. The traditional wedding marches were used. The couple entered together un attended, to speak their vows be fore an improvised altar formed of Oregon fern and white gladioli. For her wedding, the bride chose a skipper blue gabardine suit with which she used gray accessories and a gabardine corsage. Immediately following the cere mony, a buffet luncheon was held. The bride’s table was overlaid with a linen cloth and centered with a three tiered wedding cake topped with a miniature bride and bride | groom. The base of the cake was Mrs. McKinney Is Shown Courtesies Mrs. W. S. McKinney, who is to leave soon to make her home in Asheboro, has been honored on two occasions during the past week. On Tuesday afternoon, Mrs. Graham Myers and Mrs. Ted Browiv.honored Mrs. McKinney at a “Coca-Cola” party at Mrs. Bi own's home on Spring Street. The guest list included friends of the honoree and out-of-town guests were Mrs. Ed Speas and Mrs. J. W. Williamson of Yadkin ville. Mrs. McKinney was presented a remembrance and Mrs. Speas received the draw prize. The guests were invited into the dining room where refreshments were served from a table atti ac tively arranged with greenery, Christmas balls and tapers. The Christmas motif was repeated in the appointments. Mrs. N. H. Carpenter honored Mrs. McKinney at a “come and sit” tea on Thursday afternoon at her home on West Main Street. The guest list included friends and neighbors of the honoree. The home was decorated in keeping with the Christmas sea son. The yuletide motif was re peated in a beautifully appoint ed refreshment course. Mi's. McKinney was presented a gift of lipen from the hostess. Mrs. James Freeman received the draw prize. encircled with ivy and white glad ioli. Mrs. Pardew is a graduate of Honda High School and prior to her marriage held a position at the Central Telephone Company in Elkin. Mr. Pardew, a graduate of Ron da High School, is a veteran of World War II having served with the U. S. Navy for 26 months. He is now engaged in dairy farming. Upon returning from a wedding trip to Miami, Fla., the couple will be at home in Forest Hill, Md. Among the out-of-town guests attending the wedding were Mr. and Mrs. J. T.
