A slight collision at the Fifth Street crossing, delayed No. 12, the local pas senger train on the Southern road, 631 minutes last evening. No. 12 is due to leave at 6:40 p. m. It pulled out, as usual, on time. There was a switch engine to which was at tached several cars of lumber, on the side-track. Engineer R. 8. Sigman was in the cab. His trainmen tried to make the coupling and failed, and the cars rolled down the siding and on the main une. No. 12 was in the act of passing, but fortunately was going Blow. The cars came together in a sidewise collision. the shock being &reat enough to throw the passengers from their seats, but not severe enough to hurt any one. The lumber on the flat cars was run through some or tne windows of tne second- viasa car, oui iartunateiy struck no one. Mr. Williamson, of Winston, fared worse than any one. He was near the cooler and it was upset on him. Mr. J. P. Harkness, who had just settled him self in eseat, was thrown out into the aisle. The sides of all of the cars were more or less damaged, the second-class coacb suffering most. The steps were torn ore, and the windows broken.
