MONTHLY MEETING The regular monthly meeting of the Charity Organization Society was held on Thursday afternoon in the Sunda:' School rooms of the Haptist church. The meeting as well attended and a number of very important questions were brought up for discussion. Reports were heard from the Treas urer, the CorrespondiiiK Secretary, the Visiting Nurse, the General Secretary, the chairman of the Tuberculosis Com mittee, and from the committee with Mrs. Henry Weil, as chairman, which visited the County Home and the com mittee on Health and Sanitation. The corresponding secretary, Mrs. A. A. Joseph, read a letter from Dr. George M. Cooper, chief of the Bureau of Rural Sanitation, Raleigh. He u..nia "Ttio rtrpfinlztitfnn von are rep resenting (C. O. S.) can be a great, J help to the Slate Board of Health and, tn vnur own city in assisting in every way to promote a public health spirit among your people"', und he further adds "to be specific, some of the things Goldsboro needs along these lines is a well organized Health Department for city and county combined, with a whole time health ofllcer at the head in charge. This department should have a good laboratory with a com petent bacteriologist in charge. Dr. Bizzell already does good medical in spection but hia work should be fol ,owed up by the nurse to get the chil dren treated, and the work should be extended all over the county." The District Nurse reported making 1.227 calls during June, July, August and September. The General Secretary made a most interesting report of the work she has done in the three weeks she has been in Coldsboro. She has made 101 calls. This includes not only visits t the homes of applicants but to doctors, public officials, employers and all oth er agencies that have come in contact with the families asking help. She made a splendid report of several cases, now being helped by the So ciety. Mrs. Tbos. O'Berry! chairman of the Tuberculosis committee, reported on the work done by thi8 department since the last meeting in May and ex plained the plans made by the com mittee for the exhibit of the Fair. A verbal report was made by the chairman of the committee of Health and Sanitation. Mrs. Henry Weil, reporting for her committee stated that the committee had visited the County Home and had found things in good order, and with a few exceptions in a clean condition. This committee feels that Mr. Harris Is doing the best he can with the equipment and buildings provided him. To bring it up to a higher standard there should be a trained woman to look after the house keeping end of the business. The food wa.s noiin-'i-Ing and plentiful and the inninii 1 seemed to be content. It was moved and seconded tha! letter setting forth the work of tl"' Society and explaining the duties nf the General Secretary be printed and distributed among the citizens of Goldsboro.
