With the complete breakdown of the con ference between coal operators and. striking miners and the ' government today on the wage dispute, and the immediate no' tice that the railway employees would join the striking miners, "Great Britain is trembling this afternoon on the very verge of an industrial precipice," Premier Lloyd George told the House ' of Commons-, after the government's attempt at mediation had been flatly rejected. : : ' '' ' " Mr. George, this afternoon, after the disruption,' told the House of Commons, in reporting the failure of mediation, in a significant statement that "the issue involved was much wider than that of wages."
