Still, she would rather fell it than, ha v. it-csa4 -t- 1 In answer hi the many intiuiries that have come to me regarding my name as used in a political advertisement appearing in The News and Observer Saturday relative to the record of Charles L. Abernethy I beg to way to the people of the district that my name was used therein without my knowledge or consent and, I trust, only in con nection with my ollieial portion at that time as chairman pf the dis trict committee. Upon the death of Col. W. T. Dortch, the committee (of which I was a member) nominated Hon. S. M. Brinson as the nominee of the party and thereafter at the request of party leaders Mr. Aber nethy retired from the race and tendered his services to me. as chair man of the party in the district, to work and speak in the interest of party success. At my suggestion he went to several places in (the district in the interest of party harmony, and thereafter spoke at Jacksonville in the interest of the party and all its nominees. His Democracy ha been vouched for by the National Chairman of "the-party, Senator Simmons and other party leaders, and by the Democratic Executive Committees of the counties of Craven, Pamlico and Carteret, and by 5,720 Democrats in a recent primary, which was 1,933 more than any other candidate received, and in view of the fact that he seems to be the choice of the majority of the people in the district I am going to exercise the right of suffrage ami cast my vote for him in the primary on July 1st. I supported Col. W. T. Dortch, also Hon. S. M. Brinson in both of hiscampaigns, and I deplore the use of their names in, this contest, or a revival of the bitterness in this district, where party harmony and success should be the object of every loyal Democrat.
