Cliief liiehiski of the bureau of in vestigation said today that evidence had been secured from I’aul Koeninir and others said to bo connec ted with him in tlie allegoil canal plot, whicii opened up another trail. Mr. 13ieluski declined to indicate th nature of iUc alleged new conspiracy, but said arrests might be expected soon. Now York, Dec., 22.—Two Federal grand juries were investifeatin today the alleged plot to blow up the Wel land Canal and the activities of La bor’s National Peace Council in inves tigating strikes in war munition fac tories. Federal officials here expect to ar rest shortly a man whoso name has not yet been mentioned in connection with the conspiracy to destroy the W^elland Canal, and this will complj'.i the government’s case in this matter it was learned today. The man who is styled the '‘missing link” ia the conspiracy is under survelliance and will be taken into custody soon. Frederick Metzler, who acted as Koenig's stenographer and who is do clared to have already furnished the government with important informa' tion in the Welland Canal case, went before the Federal grand jury. On several oecassions since the be ginning of the Teutonic drive through Serbia it has been reported that the Russians would att(?nipt an invasion of Bulgaria from the sea, and it has been said forces were being concentrated for this purpose at Odessa.
