I Oyster Improved by Dredging,
It seems from what is stated by Capt.
James Batercau who was up to market
with as fine oysters as were ever here at
this season that proper dredging is a great
improvement to Oyster beds. . '? : ,,
These oysters, the captain says, were
taken from rocks, were dredged ; before
the repeal of the law allowing dredging.
He states that before any dredging was
done, nothing could be obtained except a
mas3 of shells and very small "raccoon"
oysters, while now there . is'an abundance
of fine ones. Tho taking away of some of
the oysters aad the breaking' apart and
scattering of those left- behind made it so
that they had room to grow and give the
present crop of lurgo oysters. -' ' :
We doubt not that proper dredging is
good. The only trouble js how to keep it
within bounds whore it is allowed.
