Grant, of Goldsboro, who was extremely prominent in the fu-ion councils here last summer, is here again. He is very qu'et, but talked a little about legislative work. No one, lie declares, really knows just what will be done. The proposition to employ legal advisers lor the Legislature ho regards as a confes sion of weakness, and thinks the fusionisU will have plenty of good lawyers in the Legislature. He holds the views, and says he has backing for it, that the Leg islature can and will absolutely repeal the present county government law, and that by such an absolute repeal the mag istrates, commissioners, etc., will cease to exist as officials. If the law is only amended there would be a question as to whether the tensure ot office clause of the constitution did uot apply. After the law isrepealed. Maj. Grantthinks another may be enacted. As to Senators, he says Butler will ofcour.se be one, but ns to the other there will be a lively contest The tact that Piitchard, Mott and Ewart all live so close together will make the fight the harder, and in the cose of .1 dead lock, Cliairman Ilolton, with all the prestige of his work dnring ibe election, may come id. Alan. Grant says Ewart did not speak for the party when he intimated that two Republican Senators might , lie chosen. Goldsboro Cor. Wil. Messenger, Remarkable Torpedo Boat. Mr. Seymour Allan, a resident ot Svd ncy, Australia, has invented a submarine torpedo boat, which, he chums, 13 capa ble of sinking to any depth, and of travel ing rapidly under water without reveal ing its presence. A working model of the boat was tried on Uctober 30, in the pub lie baths at Syndey, in the presence of the Karl ot Hopetoun, the governor, the na val commandant, and a numcer of naval and military officers. The experiments were a complete suc cess, the model rising, sinking, turning, reversing, or remaining stationary in obe dience to the electric current by which it is worked. The inventor claims tint a full-sized boat would be capable of remain ing under water for three days. It would carry torpedoes on the bow aud stern decks. Notice. Notice is hereby given that application will be made to the next Geneial Assem bly by D.
