SPECIAL COURT. hree Ordinary1 Cases Tried Then Came tbe Noted Beaufort Life Insurance Cases of Alleged Fraud Dr. Perkins Subnilla Trial or VJ Hassell In Progress. The first case of importance in the special term of Jones county Superior court called Monday was tbe State vs W. Buff, assault with sun. This was the afluir mentioned in Tub Journal several days ago, where Bud shot a negro whom he had arrested and who was trying to escape. 1 lie negro naa DroKeu into government quarters here, and stolen from Capt. S. jswell. Hun was lelt to guard the quarters. The negro came and had broken into tbe house and opened Capt, Ewell's trunk when Buff discovered Mm and ordered him out. He came out and tried to escape but Buff fired, at bim twice, bitting liiui in the legs. He escaped but was caught soon after. Huff was bound over, to court snd when tbe case was tried he was acquitted. The next case called was State vs Frank Teachy, col., larceny. Thia was the negro who was shot by Hull, as mentioned in the above case. Teachy plead guilty and as sentenced to two jean in the veni- ten'iary. . Tue next case was Mate vs wm. Willie. receiving stolen goods. He was found guilty and sentenced to one year in the penitentiary. ' THE BEAUFORT CASKS. Tuesday when court convened, the Beaufort insurance cases were called. The first case called was State vs Dr. L. W Perkins and C. R. Hassell of Carteret county, conspiracy to defraud certain in- eurance companies. ' Dr. Perkins submitcd and the trial of Mr. Hassell is going on nt this writing. The examination of the first witness, Dr. i'erkins, is not tlo.isn.etl yet. There is no telling when these cases will' be finished. as each one consumes considerable time. There are nine cases in all. The State and Insurance companies are represented in all cases by Messrs Sim mons, Solicitor uicii!)i'U9on. Allen, rear- sail and Hinsdale, and the defendants by Messrs 0. U. Gnion, W. W. Clark. I J.
