' A leadine Populist said today that In regard to the proposition, if such it csn be termed, made by the Democratic central committee to tbe Populist central com mittee regarding. Congressional fusion, that it seemed to him the "mountain hadKiven birth to a mouse." He said there were only two plana lor the Demo. crate tD pursSfts. one to have no fusion at all. but to hat Uheir own straight ticket; the other to Have complete fusion from coonty officer to U. B. Stnator. Is it senerallv known, or is it known at all, that Senator Butler on tbe 6th of June last, proposed total fusion to 'the Demo- ocratio committee! Y ur correspondent is told such' is the case. " . Tbe Droposition or suggestion for a movement to join forces so as to surely elect nine Iree silver congressmen, was sent out yesterday afternoon by Chairman Manly to Chairmen Ajer. The latter re- pliid. saying be had called, his central committee to meet next week: . Ajer said this morning: j '.'Everything begin at Democratic beadquaite's now That it the fountain-bead of. all this budaess nt at present. . Everything done amounts to nothing, absolutely riothing. When Man ly was asked for news of tbe new move ment, he said: "Nothing will bo given out br me." . ' ' Ex-Senator Jorvi who has been here several days, was with Chairman Munly this mornins. The ' Democratic State committee will not meet again. , There is no occasion for it; the central couuuittie have all needed powers. , . The Republicans Illustrate the immense registration of : voters by saying that in precincts laid off as containing not over 350 voters, 400 to 500 have In some cases registered.. This Is an effort of tbe Re publicans to make it appear that the negro vote has been suppressed. A Populist State committeeman sayt: "The, 'Democrats are disposed to make almost any concessions. Tbey know they are whipped." He is in not very good shape to pass "judicially" npon a Demo cratic proposition. Is it any wonder that Republican committeemen laugh and say they have some of the Populists so well scared, "they -ean t do a thing." The statement is made by the Populist Stale Chairman and some of the commit teemen that tbe Republicans surely save them to Understand tbey- would drop Russell and support Guthrie. - It Is per haps due Republican chairman Holton to sary he never made any such promise, for he told tbe Populists his committee and Russell too would consent to tula. Holton said as much last uivht, Who then told the Populists this?. Who "fooled" Form list State Chairman Ayer and his ceo- trl committee? - Was it not soma fru&d of Senator Prltcbardt Was not the lat'er willing, let us say desirous, to have Bus- sell taken down il that wo .
