C, March 5.j If President McKinley can succeed in making his admiuistratlon as brilliant an those who managed his Inauguration, made that event, he can he re-elected al most unanimously, for It is generally admitted that it was one of the best man aged and most brillant inaugurations we have had, and that the crowd was large, than ever before. But there is a wide difference in arranging for an inaugnr atlon and in running an administration. A.u Inauguration is a non-partisan affair in which everybody joins hands to make it successful and enjoyable, while an ad ministration always has partisan opposi tion outside its own party, and very often inside of it too. A noteworthy featur of this inauguration was the fraternizing between the members - of the outgoing and of tho incoming administration. Th inauguration parade was excellently hand led, and the arrangements for the com fort of the two hundred and fifty thous and spectators were away ahead of any thing in that line before, and the street ilecorations were not only more numer ous but much more tasteful. About tbi only adverse criticism heard 1b that too much money was spent, and that, ol oourse, is a matter of opinion, just as it is whether President McKinlcy's inaug ural address was weak or strong statesmanlike or demagogic' One thing is certain, visitors to Washington saw s jreat show, and aside from those who stopped at hotels where style figures u Che bill, they probably all feel that the) rot the worth of their money. The fick le Washington March weather was unusu ally kind to the visitors and the new administration. A decision of the U. S. Supreme Court, handed down Hub week, makes it incum bent upon the McKinley administration to prosecute the Three Friends, a vessel alleged to have been a filiuusterer, ami its crew. This decision reversed the judgment ot Jodge Locke, of the V. S. Jonrts, for the Southern District of Flor ida, tinder Which the Three Friends was released, and the vessel will have to lx teixed ogntn. This decision may result in an earlier showing of the McKlnli j ,kIU-v towards Cuba than was anticipnt- d,I, but in any event, the action of tlx new Attorney General in this case will 1 watched with interest, ns It had been un o.Hciully slated that the new administra tion would not be as zealous in enforc ing tlie neutrality laws, whereas the Cleveland administration was. The hustle and bustle incidental to tin uhango of administration has left the se rious charges against John Weddcrburn t Co. and a paper published by them called the National Recorder, filed wltb the Post-olhee Department hy firty odd prominent patent lawyers of Washing ton a few days ago, to be acted upon l) the new Postmaster General. The men who make the charges are headed by tour ei-Commlsnioners ot Patents, and affidavits are submitted to show tlml Wed.lerburn & Co. and their papei hould be on the fraud list, for receiving money under false pretenses, and foi violating the postal laws, John Wed- derburn was the manager of the Exami ner Claims Bureau and the Press Claiim Co., iKitu ot which were mixed up in s suit brought by W. fl, Hearst, and both of whiMi tl cured to a considerable extent in the advertising columns nf newspa pers year or so ago. It seems that every member of tl Rous In the Congress just closed who failed to get re-elected,' and who belong to President McKinley' party is an ap plicant for office, and aome of them an After very modest office too.' Iu one re ipect they have the advantage of the Hi outsider; they Jtnow the ropes, hut there are cases In which the chances foi Appointment are enhanced hy the appli cants being too well knowa to the ap pointing power, In order to ease the pressure a little It ha been announced that no appointment, other than diplo matic, would be made until after April I, but Una made no apparent difference, rhe rush la on. Senator Heitfcld, of Idaho, says he In vites the most rigid Investigation of the oliarge made by twenty-six members of the Idaho legislature, that hi election was brought about by the corrupt use 01 money. He hat apnounced hit intention lo caucul with th Populist, and vote the caucus decide on organisation, Urlfl and silver.
