Tbe killing of Mr. Banks in the sham
battle on Tuesday night remains as much
a mystery as ever. The flattened bullet
that was - taken f rorri the man's head
weighed only ft trifle less than a target
bullet, and that was accounted for by
the faot that a few grains was taken
from the ball in passing through the
skull and in cutting it out. It Is said the
members of tho compauy gathered un
all the shells in the armory that were lu
sight as they started out, of course huv
ing no idea they weru not all blanks, but
if such was allowed it seems to be gross
carelessness on the. part dT the officers
for those cartridges should bare been
examined and iBSued'to one man at a
time. Private Banks was given full mill
tary burial today.
. There will be no special session of the
Supreme court. The Governor it is said
has no power to call an extra session of
tiie court unless it be to dectSc a question
on tho construction of the general clec
tion law as provided for In the laws of
1895. . :..y ...

Railway Stocks Steady at Advance
But Dull. Cotton Higher
on Dry Weather. Wheat
Roceipts Light, Good
Foreign Demand.
Special to Journrl.
New Yokk, July 15. The Congres
sional dead lock in the Conference at
Washington over sugar, caused selling.
Tills is a purely speculative movement
and it is hard to determine the out
come.
Tobacco trust recovered on .declara
tion of a dividend and wasjvery strong.
Railway stocks were steady at top
prices, but dull.
Cotton daily advances on 'continued
dry, weather and the advanced prices
for spot. The feature was the realizing
which caused a slight reactionfrom the
highest prices.
The position for cotton is strong, looks
like good prices for new crop,
Continued light receipt) and scarcity
of the crop of wheat, coupled with the
fore'gn demand were the features in the
wheat market.
Farmers are holding their wheat and
ill undoubtedly get higher prices.
We advise buying cotton and wheat.
